Here is the quest I give to everyone. Find a contact person for both ESPN and FoxSports. I have sent them emails through their contact us link. We will see where that goes.

The mission. Tell them you want exposure of other teams instead of the same old Braves, Cubs, Mets, Yankees, etc...

I am tired of seeing the same old matchups. I am bored and it detracts me from wanting to watch the nationally televised games.

Now this is an email campaign worth engaging in.

I agree with this. Why are the freakin Mutts on Fox every damn week? did they really think the Mutts would be any good this year when they made their schedule in the off-season?

Unfortunately for you, you will be stuck watching Mutts games because you are on the east coast and the Mutts draw a crowd.

The Yankees and Braves have enjoyed a ton of success and continue to be strong teams, so you will be "stuck" watching them as well. In all fairness, though, there are MANY worse teams you could have been stuck watching than these two...

If you want the Marlins or DRays or Phillies or Orioles on FOX, they need to start drawing crowds and winning games.

Last Week on Fox and ESPN they had the Cubs and Braves the two teams that I can see any time I want too on their own networks. :banghead :banghead

Typical Yankee's are the only team out there response from A Yankee fan.

Wow did anyone expect that.

I have no problem with THe Philles, A) Because they get Fox coverage and

B)I have the local sports network.

So please don't bring your, Screw The World, Go Yankee's point of view into this because

The Marlins are winning, The Phillies are winning, The Expo's have been winning for two seasons.

The Yankee's are due for another collapse and it's been coming for two years now because The Crowds will go away with another First Round Loss again my freind.

People will tune into watch Dontrelle pitch. A breath of fresh air from seeing that hack Mussina pitch every week. People will tune into Phillies games because Philly can be a big market and Philly is in the revival mode with huge walk up crowds and big crowds for games.

So please take a look at the world around you not just in NY.

If Baseball truly wants to promote baseball, they will show all teams, especially those that are having successful seasons.

To show the same 5 teams every week is crap.

How many times have the Braves and Mets been on ESPN or Fox this year?

Why cant we see a Royals/Cardinal matchup? How bout Dodgers/Angels? Cubs/White Sox? Expos/Blue Jays?

But no, every time they play during rivalry weekend....its Yankees/Mets. I am tired of this crap. We as fans need to speak up. Once I get all the prelim work done, it can begin. I encourage all to spread the word and get this out for all. Here in San Antonio I am tired of seeing the same old crap. I shouldnt have to pay 150 bucks just to see one or two games of other teams. I am not asking to completely replace the 'big' markets, just get some damn variety.

Das, for your situation,

Call your FOX local station and tell them to select different games. As long as it isn't a Rangers or Astros game being aired, they can select from any of the four regional telecasts offered.

Marlins will probably be selected for a FOX telecast in the last two weeks of the season as a Wildcard Weekend Game in September like last season. Len Kasper along with a commentator from the other team in the game.

The matchups those two weekends are:

Sept. 20 vs. Atlanta (Good Chance of being selected like last year)

Sept. 27 vs. New York (Good Chance of being slected)

But Cape, this is not about a regional broadcast.

This is about the Nationally televised game....I want to see Joe Buck and that idiot McCarver actually visit 'other' stadiums. I dont want to hear the scraps calling some of the fresh teams' games. I want to hear the top people calling these games.

yup.... same with the Royals.....

enough of the cubs, braves, mutts, and yankees

i want the Fish, Phillies, Expos, Royals, and to some extent the White Sox

The majority of affiliates ask for large market games, so Buck and McCarver being the A-Team call those. Sorry, but I'm happy with just having them televised as FOX's game of the week.

Fox can air four games of the week every Saturday.

yup.... same with the Royals.....

I don't remember seeing the astros very often either, and they're leading their division.

I could call KABB all I want. But again this does not address the situation. Possibly for Fox to a degree, but by no means with ESPN.

There is still a lack of games being shown of smaller market and/or fresh teams or stories.

When the World Series comes around, what happens if you have the Royals vs the Astros? Athletics vs Marlins? Mariners vs Expos?

People will tune out. Why? They know nothing about these teams, because they were never exposed to them on national television throughout the year. If I remember the NFL had a policy as far as a couple of years ago, where each team had to be on national TV at least once a year. Why cant this occur with MLB?

That is the real question. There are ample opportunities.

Das, One note

The Fish are used alot for games in cities where The Home team is on.

So when Philly Versus The Cubs is The national game on ESPN, I usually get The Fish.

ESPN carries the Fish as an alternate game frequently, our next Wednesday game against Atlanta will be available on ESPN2 Alt. I believe.

I agree with you Das, I believe they should carry games from every team equally, but it isn't going to happen. They need ratings and the bigger market teams give them the bigger ratings.

I dont get crap.

I am not talking about Alternative games.

That Nationally televised games that everyone gets to see.

And this is not just about the Marlins.

There is a reason why the NFL has overtaken MLB.

This is one reason...they get all their teams at least some national exposure, and in a much smaller schedule.

You're comparing apples and peaches.

MLB can't televise every team's games nationally and/or over the air, it's impossible. 162 games X 30 teams = 4,860 games is not going to happen.

You live in Astros and Rangers territory, therefore you are only entitled to those games and those aired nationally. If you want to watch Marlins games, you have to see them nationally or buy the package. It's the only possible way to do it.

The NFL has 3 over the air networks and ESPN to air games on. The stations are willing to bump programming for the NFL.

I think every team in MLB should be shown nationally equally. Last time I checked, every MLB team was in large TV Markets. FOX own and operates most of the stations that are in the 28 American MLB Cities. FOX has no official stations in Montreal or Toronto, but they have affiliates with signals strong enough to reach them.

Das, the Extra Innings package is for people like you who are fans of out-of-market teams. It is too difficult to televise MLB unless it is a regional production.

  • Author

MLB has ESPN and Fox.

I am not saying televise EVERY game nationally.

EVERY game is not televised nationally for the NFL.

I simply am asking for exposure for all teams. I dont know...maybe show ONE Marlins/Expos game on the National Fox broadcast throughout the season.

ONE Royals/WhiteSox matchup on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.

And not the stupid regional crap. Get the top broadcasters to these games and EXPOSE all teams.

The NFL ensures that all their teams get on national TV at least once a season. For the MLB to not do so is pathetic and inexcusable.

MLB should require ESPN and FOX to air every team equally, but that can't happen until the new contracts in 2005 (ESPN) and 2006 (FOX) and by then they may have MLBTV or something like it.

Blame CBS for starting the trend of Mets, Braves, etc. every week. FOX has kept it because it is the only thing that wins for them.

This has nothing to do with the Marlins once again.

This is about a penchant for showing the SAME teams over and over again on the top national broadcast.

Especially when those teams suck and are in last place.

I am not asking for EVERY game on national tv. Just one or two for each team on national tv throughout the year using the top broadcast team.

They dont even have to do it equally.

They should be required to show EVERY team a minimum of however many times throughout a season.

MLB screwed up again and we once again are shown why those in charge of MLB have no clue as how to market the game, whereas the NFL has every clue in the world.

I don't agree with you Das. Every team has been featured nationally this year already using FOX, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN Alternates. The problem is you can't get them. You can get all the ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN Alt games using a dish, but not cable.

Let me check out the MLB/ESPN schedule...
