March 3, 200521 yr Link to February 28th Entry Link to March 1st Entry March 3, 2005 wow, my first long day and it's finally over. i didn't have to make the trip to vero beach yesterday, so today was the first day of my 8-5 workday. had to be dressed at 9 am for a meeting and then stretched 30 minutes later (we didn't even have a meeting). we had a B game on the back field that started at 10:30, so after stretch the position players went to the cages and hit, while some pitchers and catchers (myself included) went to the bullpen to catch. i caught dontrelle where he and wiley were working on something. i think the main thing was getting him to focus on the target and seeing the ball into the mitt before starting his windup. anyways, everything went well with that. game time at 10:30 rolled around. it was only 4 innings long with the starters (logan kensing and travis smith) going 2 innings apiece. i caught logan and i don't think he gave up a hit. there was a guy on base, but i'm pretty sure he walked him. he had a few strikeouts and overall i thought his performance was excellent. there weren't any homeruns hit this game, but matt padgett (AAA last year) smoked one to dead center but speedy eric reed ran it down at the warning track. he's one to keep an eye on for sure - speed kills. grabbed some lunch in the locker room afterwards and then got ready to go out to the "A" game versus the orioles. i'm sure y'all saw on ESPN where we lost 8-4. beckett threw well, i think giving up one run. leiter gave up a few as he struggled just a bit in his outing. he was locating well, but just barely missing. plus he's got so much movement on his ball throwing a cutter and 2-seam along with his other pitches. there weren't any homeruns hit in this game. it drizzled and was overcast most of the game but that cleared up just a little about halfway through the game. castillo played the entire game at 2nd base - i think he just wanted to get more at-bats. he did have some spectacular defensive plays on groundballs up the middle. he and alex both have exceptional range and glove control. lowell hit the ball hard one time but it was right at the 2nd baseman. easley played first and had a RBI single early on in the game. anyways, we travel down to fort lauderdale tomorrow to play the orioles again. neither tejada nor sosa appeared in today's game, but i'm sure they'll be there tomorrow.
