If you get the hits that matter early there is no "close and late". :thumbup

What did he do as a Marlin, before he hit in a hitter's park behind two feared hitters and one of the best hitting third baseman in baseball?

Won a World Series.

745773

So did the FO.

745776

Yes they did, with key components of the previous administration. This is UNC before UNC was UNC. They had a World Series team and turned it into a third place NL East team.

Your boy Pudge wasn't here.

I didn't say all of them. Ugie wasn't here either. But a lot of the pieces were. Cabs. Josh, Louie, D-Lee, Seabass, etc.

The FO built a team around what the old guys left behind, but this FO hasn't done anything completely on its own, and they also haven't shown they know how to or can field a playoff team annually. The old administration didn't either, but I am not calling them good either, just saying they left key pieces to the 2003 team behind. Who has this administration drafted, or signed? The next Beckett? Cabs? Etc.? Right now our best prospects include a couple mid to late 20 years olds.

Derrek Lee's 2003 playoff stats:

.208 BA/.269 OBP/.292 SLG

1 HR 8 RBI 2 SB

Obviously, he's quite clutch.

Blame bad pitching and playing in the division with the two juggernauts sort of skews the ability to make the playoffs, no?

That'd be like saying the 2003 Marlins were losers because they didn't win the regular-season Division crown.

745802

I never said Lee or Pudge did everything. I am just saying that people really should second guess the FO for letting Pudge and D-Lee go. D-Lee would have cost us about what we just signed Paulie too, and Pudge would have cost us less than what we signed Delgado to. And for people who say he didn't have money at the time, how do you explain we had money this year figuring Loria says he lost money last year, meaning he had less money to start this year?

Damn that Delgado.

He stuck with a poor team in a hard to win division and tried to turn them into a winner instead of demanding a trade or signing elsewhere.

Over the long run, we still get way more value for Delgado with his contract because 4 years in Miami at Catcher will tear one down. At 35-36, Pudge would be ineffective and probably won't produce near where Carlos will be able to produce at 35-36.

745822

Lo Duca is two years younger than Pudge and even though I hate Duke, he does produce very well (top RBI numbers for an NL catcher). What we lost in production, we certainly got back in savings/durability/youth.

Damn that Delgado.

Memory doesn't serve you correctly, the Blue Jays chose not to offer him arbitration therefore losing their ability to resign him.

dude had a broken hand!

Lo Duca is a Marlin for what the next four years? Until he is 37. The reason we didn't get Pudge is because he was going to turn 36 under his contract? Someone explain how this makes sense since Pudge is the better player.

Lee came much cheaper than Delgado. Much better glove than Delgado. Younger than Delgado. Is a proven hitter in the Fin. I am not sure Delgado will be the same Delgado that he is today in 4 year, but D-Lee will more than likely still be D-Lee.

This is utterly riduclious.

PhishPhanHFW, One you never answered Juanky's question. Which is copyrighted by me but thats a differnet story. You never answered which person pitchers fear more. I dont have any clue what a players defense has to do with opposing pitchers and their fear.

Secondly, if you ever watched a couple of games when we had D. Lee, you would know that while he was immensely talented, when the game was on the line he sucked more than Ramon Castro for us last year.

Looking back at a few other points....

Denny Bautista was never at any point available this offseason, Danny Bautista was, but he is now retired so who cares.

Chad Fox ya he is doing well, but he is not durable. He was destroying teams last year before he got hurt too.

Pudge will be fine this year, he will start to fall apart next year. Watch. Learn. Nobody ever said Pudge wasnt worth 10 million last year or this year. Its 2006-07 that are the years that worry people. If Pudge proves us wrong so be it. That's baseball.

And again, let me just reiterate, PhishPhanHFW,

I have no clue what you are saying and you are wrong 80% of the time. Get a brain transplant and stop pulling crap out of your ass.

Where you concieved defense and the Red Sox last year is beyond me. Dougie M played what? the 8th and 9th innings? who cares?

Damn you ruin way too many threads.

And thats that. Das has spoken and there will be no more.
