Tomorrow's game not on TV!?!?

Featured Replies

it should be on mlbtv

Last year when there were a couple Marlins games not on TV at all but still on MLB.TV, it was blacked out for me.

Because you use lised the credit cards billing address from florida. Last year when I tried to do mlbtv in september to watch a game it didnt work for that reason. This season I used a boston address and I get them all

I heard that despite where your address is, they automatically check your IP to see if you're in Marlins territory or not.

756037

I doubt they can do that.

They absolutely can.

I've gone through this before. What I did was VPN to my Company's main server in Charlotte, NC. That tricks MLB as they think I'm in NC (VPN changes your IP address). I'm almost certain that if the game is not on TV, anyone in Marlins territory will be blackout through MLB.com as well.

VPN stands for Virtual Private Networking. It's used to connect to remote servers (it logs you in the remote network as if you were phisically inside).

If anyone needs any more info, send me a message.

They can but they dont. It's all based on credit cards. I called up wanting to get New York games un-blacked out and tried to say I was going to College in Montana but am from NY so since I'm in MT, I want the games to be un-blacked out. They would have done it for me except they needed a land-line phone number to call to verify. So if you have any friends that live way off somewhere where you dont care about the games there, you're in luck.

Based on my personal experience, it's not related to the credit card info (they have mine at their side, so I don't have to enter it every time). The first time I had the problem, I didn't learn about the blackout thing until I paid (back then you could pay $2.95 for individual games), I was extremely upset and that's when the VPN idea came to mind. Since it worked afterwards (and they had alredy charged my card), it was obvious that they were going by the IP address.

Further to my point, I have been out of town during blackout games, and paying with the same credit card, I have been able to watch the game (without doing the VPN part).

Maybe they look at billing zip code first, if that matches Marlins territory, they go with IP address (you could be out of town). If you can provide an out-of-state address, maybe they won't even look at your IP (possibility).

Now that we don't have the per-game purchase option, it becomes an expensive experiment.

My 0.02 ...

I cannot watch on local tv, because I do not have FSN up here in Tallahassee. When I ordered Extra Innings, I was blacked out...Is there any possible way to get the games? BTW, according to MLB.com, MLB.TV is blacked out here too. I found this by clicking blackout restrictions, and looking up the Marlins, and saw my area code there.

Help?

You have only 2 options unfortunately:

1) DISH Network

2) DirecTV

Why did my dad have to get transferred up here?! :banghead :banghead

I have looked into both of them, but if we do get it, we would need it fro 5 TV's, including 1 HD setup. $299.99 for the HD box, the other 4 for free, and about $70 per month, not including the sports pack, etc. That is already the same as our digital cable price, which we get HBO and Starz on...We have a better deal money-wise with digital cable, although I really want DirecTV or DISH Network specifically for these games.

Couldn't you just get a mini-dish with 1 box for one TV and pay the minimum fee for the Multi-Sports pack? With DirecTV it may get as low as $15 a month and you get all the FSNs.

Edit: I feel your pain. Digital Cable is better than the Dish, but Comcast up there is stubborn as a bull.

I hope I can make it to the game today. I am already drunk. I was supossed to go to the redosx today at 1 but it was rained out. But that didnt stop me fron drinking! Go marlins

Hopefully it'll be on Directv! it says it will be in colorado unless their local channel blacks it out.. I have the MLB league pass

755997

I just looked, channel 745 on DirecTV at 8:30, but it says it'll be blacked out in all Marlins territory :banghead .

756011

Hmm I'll have to check for myself. But if that is the case than that defeats the purpose of buying MLB league pass

756022

Marlins games on MLB Extra Innings are always blacked out for people in Marlins territory.

756035

Now there's a false statement for ya! I've watched the game before on directv before when it wasnt on locally! oh and those of you who have directv check channel 645 for the game :thumbup

You must not live in Marlins territory or something, because it is blacked out for everyone on MLB Extra Innings in Marlins territory, period. There's no if's, and's, or but's about it. If you can somehow watch the game and you live in Marlins territory, then something is wrong and DirecTV probably screwed something up. It's also blacked out on 645 right now as well.

Thank god for DVH.

Well it's blacked out for me and everyone else. Again, DirecTV must have screwed something up because you should not be able to see it.
