Posted April 29, 200519 yr Which players are sure fire HOF players? If their careers ended today and never played again who would be in the HOF? Discuss
April 29, 200519 yr Bonds Pudge Sosa Clemens Big Unit Jeter :plain Maddux Barry Larkin Glavine Piazza :plain Mabye Raffy the list is endless.
April 30, 200519 yr What do you mean maybe Raffy? He's gonna be one of a few to have 3000 hits and 500 HRs
April 30, 200519 yr What do you mean maybe Raffy? He's gonna be one of a few to have 3000 hits and 500 HRs 758146 The topic is "if their careers ended today and they never played again" and if he did retire today he wouldn't have 3,000 hits. I do think he'll eventually get in, but certainly not on the first or even second ballots unless it's a really weak year.
April 30, 200519 yr Oh, I'm sorry.. 2,922 hits and 551 HR if he retired today. Yea, those aren't hall of fame numbers. :plain
April 30, 200519 yr If I remember correctly, isn't Rickey Henderson playing in the minor leagues right now or something? Fred McGriff mabye, Frank Thomas, Mariano Rivera :plain, Bagwell, can't think of any others.

Yea, those aren't hall of fame numbers. :plain 758153 I never said he wasn't getting in nor did I say he wasn't a hall of fame caliber player. If you go look up that thread from like 6 months ago where there was a debate on whether Raffy should be in the hall or not, I was one of the people arguing that he definitely deserves to be there. I just don't think he'll get in on the first ballot, but he'll definitely get in eventually. I shouldn't have said "mabye" because he does deserve to be there, my mistake.
April 30, 200519 yr My bad... You would probably have to make a case for John Franco over Trevor Hoffman, if their careers ended now. But, if Hoffman keeps it up for another 3 years and become all time saves leader, then you'd probably have to say he's in. Then again, Lee Smith isn't in the Hall of Fame.
April 30, 200519 yr Sheffield? 758604 thank you i was about to name him. 300. career avg, 415+ HR, 1350+ RBI,2200 hits,400 OB%,527 SLG,927 OPS.

He's going to have to get to 500 HR's for him to have a shot. Here are mine: ARod, Jeter, Johnson, Clemens, Maddux, Rivera, Bonds, Pudge, Griffey, Sosa, Piazza, Palmeiro, Glavine (although, I'm not sure I'd vote for him if I were a voter), Alomar (yeah, he just retired), Bagwell, Biggio, and Pedro. There are a ton of guys who are playing that could be HOF's, but these guys could go to Cooperstown right now if they called it quits. The guys I'd say that "should be" there if their careers continue are: Sheffield, Hoffman, Thome, Pujols, Guerrero, Manny, Helton, Rolen, and Tejada, with a bunch of "bubble" guys floating out there...

April 30, 200519 yr Author Home Runs arent the only criteria for the HOF. I do think Sheff is worthy of HOF consideration, but I understand his point on Pudge and Piazza over Sheff. Only reaso n why is becuse of the positions they play. From the catcher position what Piazz and Pudge have done offensively is incredible. AROD ? If his career ended today there is no way he makes the HOF.
April 30, 200519 yr Bondsy, Maddux, Johnson, Clemons, AROD, Griffey Jr, Sosa, Palmeirio, Biggio, Pedro, Piazza, Ramon Castro

Piazza is the greatest offensive catcher ever, and Pudge is one of the best ever Sheffield isnt an alltimer like those 2 Alomar was THE 2nd baseman of the 90s, look at his numbers and awards.. dont compare Sheffield to him

May 1, 200519 yr Author There wasnt a 2nd baseman better than Alomar in the 90's. 8-9 years of being the best at your position should get you in the Hall.
