May 24, 200519 yr Yahoo! Sports Game Preview Philadelphia's Brett Myers is earning more respect from his peers with every start. The Phillies hope Myers continues his emergence on the mound as they play the streaking Florida Marlins in the middle game of their series. After struggling last year, Myers has dominated hitters this season with a 1.88 ERA and .198 batting average against in nine starts. The 24-year-old hurler is 4-2 and his 71 strikeouts to tie him for second place in the National League Myers gave up three runs and six hits, striking out nine in seven innings to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-4 in his last start on Thursday. ``He's the real deal,'' St. Louis manager Tony La Russa said.  Myers' ERA rose from 1.63 to 1.87 as he allowed more than two runs for only the second time in nine starts. ``I tried to stop overthrowing and make good pitches,'' said Myers, who was 11-11 with a 5.52 ERA in 2004. Myers will face Florida's Josh Beckett on Tuesday. The Marlins right-hander is having an excellent season himself, boasting a 6-3 record and 2.47 ERA. He's given up just five earned runs in 19 2-3 innings over his last three starts. Beckett will try to extend Florida's winning streak to six games. Dontrelle Willis pitched eight strong innings Monday to become the first eight-game winner in the NL and lead the Marlins past the Phillies 5-2. Carlos Delgado and Miguel Cabrera hit consecutive homers in the sixth inning to carry Florida to its season-high fifth straight victory. Delgado and Cabrera each extended their hitting streaks to 12 games. Delgado finished 3-for-4, and Cabrera had two hits. Delgado has picked up his power production at the plate with three home runs and nine RBIs over the last six games to give him seven homers and 28 RBIs on the season. Stat of the Day: Brett Myers vs. Florida (Career): 3-4 5.71ERA .314BAA
