May 26, 200521 yr Al Leiter is a struggling 39-year-old left hander. Not to mention, he is the highest paid pitcher in Marlins history. So why are we keeping him? I realize that Leiter has an $8 million contract, but it can't be that hard to find a trading partner like the Yankees or Mets who can take his salary. We could get a relief pitcher from the Yankees or possibly Kevin Brown from the Yankees. But, I know that I have stupid ideas in my hot head so I am asking you, if the Marlins were to trade Leiter, who could we get in return and where would he land? Thanks. P.S. Watch out for hurricane season! It is going to be nasty. In addition, watch out this afternoon for severe thunderstorms.
May 26, 200521 yr nobody is going to take a 40 year old struggling pitcher with a ERA. over 7 and a huge salary
May 26, 200521 yr well, during the offseason the mets and yankees didn't even want to give him $5 million. why would they take his salary now that they know he's no good?
May 26, 200521 yr If we did trade him it would be to a team with a young staff that needs example, and even if that oppotunity came about we would have to pay a huge chunk of that deal, plus am not in favor of trading Al, he will turn it around, he is a veteran and matures our young players, they look up to him.
May 26, 200521 yr I doubt there's a team that would want him. I don't blame him for yesterday's loss, because I think the delay is what really got to him. However, even though he is struggling, he theoretically could still turn it around and pitch ok for the second half of the season.
May 26, 200521 yr There's really not much we can do with Leiter at the moment except continue to hope he will turn it around. Nobody is going to take him (unless we release him and eat his salary). It makes no sense to move him to AAA, and he likely wouldn't accept the move anyway. He wouldn't be effective in the BP. The only option Jack might take in the future is to skip his starts for critical games. So there you have it. He's on the team to stay for the remainder of the year.
May 26, 200521 yr Lets trade Leiter to Tampa Bay for Scott Kazmir, BJ Upton and Delmon Young!!! Or to Afghanastan for a bag of sand and a cave dweller to be named later.

May 26, 200521 yr Honestly, he's the only one really struggling in our rotation. If we can get 4 out of 5 at least a few times for the rest of the season, I'd be happy.

May 26, 200521 yr Leiter has about as much trade value right now as the beerman with the elephant hat

That should help fund the stadium.

May 26, 200521 yr The more important question right now is: How's the elephant-hat beer man's pitching game? I'd be willing to take a chance.
