Drew, White, Mondesi, Sanders, Hart

I don't know about you people, but there isn't a name on the list that I'd WANT on this team if we were 20 games out never mind one game out. Hart replacing Castillo? Sure he'd be alot cheaper and he potentially has a tremndously high ceiling but I don't see him providing what Luis brings to this team. I can be convinced otherwise but we don't need to do it here, now, for this thread, that's not the point.

For me at least, and it's just my opinion, for the last three years Luis Castillo has been our "Mr. Marlin". Others have had good years around him, guys have made great plays, but there he has been, every night, banging the ball, getting on base, making DPs with whoever was at SS, smart, cunning, a terrific all-around player. To trade him now, even though I know he's a free agent come fall, makes no sense, unless you get someone that can replace everything he means to this team.

The point is, except for Hart, who I have to admit is a helluva player, the rest of these names are a bunch of BUMS, hasbeens, neverwas, chronically injured guys who IF the baseball gods had smiled in their directions MIGHT have been superstars right now instead of tradebait. Everyone of them has had good years, some have had good careers, but where are they now? They are discards.

Give me a Jay Gibbons. Give me a Kerry Ligtenberg. We needed a left-handed bat in April, we still need one and good relief help is always a plus. Heck, I'd even take Scott Sullivan and/or Juan Gonzalez, even though they'll be on the DL until after the deadline because they won't command anyone from our starting eight and none of our starting pitching. Those are chances I'd take to improve this club because the acquisition cost would have minimal effect on the club in 2003.

McKeon loves Sullivan, if he's recovering well, I have a feeling the FO might take a chance on him. My sense is Jack is playing a much bigger roll in this than the press gives him credit for. Some in the press are still trying to sell us on Jack not being the reason for the transformation of this club. Wake up and smell the coffee. Beinfest has a spectacular track record so far, but my guess is "Trader" Jack is being consulted every time there's a nibble.

BTW, I loved Jack's comment (on the Cincy firings) that these are the guys who thought he wasn't good enough to run the team after winning 91 games two years in a row.

It wasn't by accident that Jack was quoted as saying he didn't want to see this group broken up. Jack is great at doing the grandfatherly thing, but he says NOTHING that isn't premeditated and everything he says is said for a purpose. Jack is the best thing that's happen to this franchise in many years and this FO is smart enough to listen to the guy I'm sure.

So you won't find me posting on Drew or Mondesi or White or Sanders because it isn't worth my time. Beinfest is THE MAN, look what he's brought us, have any of your been happier about being a Marlins fan for what seems like forever than you are right now?

I don't think we NEED anyone on that list, but Drew or White could be useful. You just don't know how Cabrera will play out. AND, how about this thought. If we do make the playoffs wit Cabs in LF, how is he going to do in the post-season? I'd rather have Drew or White or Sanders in the box during the playoffs than a 20-year-old rookie. I'm sorry but that's the truth.

omg WILD thats like saying... you see that hot hoe at the movies..... why should ya boy HOLLA at her cuz he is a proven playa??? and you shouldnt...

Eva heard the rookie K.Rod last year????

Rookiez can make huge impacts in the post season...

this is a risk we have to take.....

No Wild, that's not the "truth", it's your "opinion".

Good point on K-Rod, but you just don't knowif he'll be a liability or not...

Read what I said:

It's the truth that I'd rather have one of them at-bat and not Cabs.

You just don't kow how Cabrera will play out.

You don't know if any of the other guys are going to play out, either! What if they don't adjust well with the team? Chemistry does play a factor in a team's success.

He did pretty damn well in probably the most high-pressure situation/game so far this season.

I've heard of plenty of other rookies that have done much better than Drew or White or Sanders in the playoffs. Does the name Livan ring a bell? I don't think you should make the age such a big deal - Cabrera hasn't done anything immature to make it seem like it should be factor!

good point. I don't think we should be waiting for him to fall off we should be watching him EXPLODE like he is now. In another month and a half this topic will be all but settled.

Let's hope for much sooner than a month and a half.

he means in a month and a half we will know how Cabs has done...

he means in a month and a half we will know how Cabs has done...

It sounded as if he was implying that in a month in a half everyone will know they made the right dcision by sticking with Cabs, meaning he did well...

huh?

isnt that what i wrote?

Marlins2003,

Dont forget that McKeon's son is a Asst GM for the Rockies and formerly Reds and his son-in-law was part of the coaching staff in San Diego (fired I believe this year). Not only this but the baseball inner network is TIGHT amongst oldtimers....regardless of what team they work(ed) for.

A little something on Drew according to Trader Jack from flamarlins.com:

"I've been privy to all this [trade] information. I've never heard one word about J.D. Drew or his name mentioned. They better check with their Major League source. I'd get a new source. He hasn't been too accurate." -- McKeon, responding to reports that the Marlins are interested in St. Louis outfielder J.D. Drew
