June 7, 200521 yr Courtesy of the ESPN Bottom line. Well worth a shot, and he'll love pitching at a park like Shea.
June 7, 200521 yr Damn! I wish the Marlins had signed him! FoxSports reported this morning that the Marlins had been the frontrunners...
June 7, 200521 yr How much is it going to cost the Mets? 798897[/snapback] 500,000 I still wish we had him :confused

June 7, 200521 yr Graves signs with Mets -- not Marlins By Ken Davidoff Newsday Posted June 7 2005, 1:30 PM EDT The New York Mets have come to terms with embattled reliever Danny Graves, cast aside by the Cincinnati Red last week, to a one-year contract and a team option for 2006. Graves chose the Mets over their division rivals, the Florida Marlins. The Cubs, Braves, Diamondbacks and Rangers also showed interest. According to Newsday, Graves, 31, will earn the pro-rated minimum ($300,000) for 2005. The Mets can exercise a $5 million option on him for 2006, or they can buy out the option for $500,000. According to a baseball source, the Marlins grew frustrated with Graves, who supposedly wanted to sign with them. The source said Graves' agent, Alan Nero, was insisting on an option year that would have a $500,000 buyout to make up for the relocation bonus he forfeited when he was released instead of traded from the Reds. The Marlins weren't willing to go for the option year. Graves is earning $6.25 million from the Reds this season. Before getting released by the Reds, he went 1-1 with 10 saves and a 7.36 ERA. The righthander won't report to the Mets for a few days, according to a person familiar with the situation. When he comes, he will likely start out as a setup man, but he could quickly challenge Braden Looper for closing duties. Graves is the Reds' all-time saves leader with 182 but fell out of favor after a series of poor outings. That he made an obscene gesture to Cincinnati fans after a May 22 appearance didn't help his longevity in the Queen City, even though the Reds are paying him $6.25 million this season. Link I'm glad we didn't sign him.
June 9, 200521 yr You better thank your lucky stars he didnt sign with the Marlins. Mets claim they found him tipping his pitches but tipping your pitches doesnt take 5mph off your heater. He will get shelled in NY too.
June 9, 200521 yr Minaya's lost it. $5 million option? That $500,000 is guaranteed money for him, dumb move for the Mets, he isn't worth the $715,000 he's going to cost them for this year.

June 10, 200521 yr I don't think he'll ever be seeing that $5 million. He gets the minimum this year and will pick up that 500k next year to dump him. For them its worth it because their pen stinks and look at it this way they didn't lose anything but the 500k they'll lose next year for picking him up since they didn't trade for him.
June 10, 200521 yr I wonder if the Mets sent Lastings Millege to the Reds to complete the deal. :mischief
June 13, 200521 yr Graves still hasn't thrown a pitch. Looper lost the game for them in the 9th today.
June 13, 200521 yr Graves made the wrong decision. No one ever resurrects there career on the Mets, they only end them.

My fault.
