June 10, 200521 yr These guys have been mentioned a bunch on this board. I really don't care what it takes...if Cincy and Oakland are shopping these guys, we should think about making a deal. First, Wily Mo is a young, power OF that could add a needed spark to our lineup. 8 HR in 62 AB's is enough for me to unload some highly coveted prospects. Zito is still great. I think I saw some statistic out there that if you take away one 11-run meltdown against Tampa Bay, he hasn't allowed more than 4 runs in any of his other starts...and recently he has really pitched well. If the A's didn't have an offense that is (unbelievably) worse than the Marlins, he'd have a few more wins under his belt. Anyway, I'd give up anyone but Hermida...anyone. Drafting 5 pitchers in the first round (and sandwich picks) makes trading any of our pitchers an option now. I think our bullpen will turn around. I'm more concerned with our offense and getting another solid starting pitcher to bloster our rotation. Thoughts?
June 10, 200521 yr Dont trade Olsen or Hermida. Everyone else can be had (Bazardo, Kensing, Vargas, Johnson, etc) Im a big Olsen and Josh Johnson fan.
June 10, 200521 yr too bad willy mo can't dh for hte marlins lol if we stuck him in the outfield we'd need to give him a glove that could catch a beachball
June 10, 200521 yr Author Is Wily Mo really any worse than Cabrera? Ideally, I'd like to see Cabs move back to 3rd - stick willy mo in left - and leave Enc in right (with Hermida there next year). I'm also a big Olsen fan too, but the reality is that we're going to give about 5 just drafted pitchers 7 figure signing bonuses...who are each UNTRADABLE for a whole year. Tank, Olsen, Johnson, Barzado, etc. I think they're all expendable if we can get a young, cheap offensive weapon.
June 10, 200521 yr Anything is possible, the question is how much of the future do you spend for the present? Are either these guys the one thing that will win this for this team this year?

Zito/Olsen would look nice in the rotation next year. Leiter is gone and AJ likely won't return. We need Zito next year. I wouldn't mind approaching AJ about Pavano-like (what we offered, not the Yanks) money right now. If he still won't sign, try to trade him to Texas for Texeira (I think he has an extra year or two on his contract) and get Zito to replace him this year. 1. Pierre 2. Castillo 3. Cabrera (RF/LF) 4. Delgado 5. Texeira (RF/LF) 6. Lowell 7. Lo Duca 8. Gozno 1. Beckett 2. Willis 3. Zito 4. Moehler (sp?) 5. Leiter :thumbup
June 11, 200521 yr Author Wily Mo is one of 4 or 5 guys that the Reds probably won't trade. 804054 Actually, weren't they trying to trade him at the beginning of the season? Once he got hurt, all the trade speculation ended. I think he's available for the right price. BTW, I love AJ - and think we should do all we can to try to keep him, but the writing is on the wall...AJ is as good as gone. We should try to trade for Zito - not just to bolster our rotation this year - but to replace AJ next year. In a perfect world: Beckett Willis AJ Zito Olsen hmmmmm....
June 11, 200521 yr Herminda the starting right fielder next year? I would love to have zito, but they always ask for the farm.
June 11, 200521 yr We need to use Jason Stokes as trade-bait in order to upgrade the bullpen. 805559 No one wants a one dimensional first-base prospect, just look at Ryan Howard.

Sorta.....he was on the block considering that Dunn, Kearns, Griffey was their OF and they were gonna contend. Now that they've jumped ship in the race and are going to start being stripped for parts, he goes from being the expendable 4th OF to being the untouchable young OF. Kearns has been inconsistent his entire career and Dunn is going to cost a King's ransom in arbitration, so they both can go. That leaves Wily Mo and Griffey who most likely won't draw much interest. The Reds of the future are Ryan Wagner, Aaron Harang, Wily Mo Pe?a, and their SS whose name I can't currently recall. Everyone else can go.
June 11, 200521 yr AJ Burnett for Mark Teixiera? Not gonna happen. The Rangers would laugh in our face.

The SS is Felipe Lopez.
