Posted June 26, 200519 yr I would go with 790 by a hair b/c of Boog...but 560 is really coming around with guys like Jesse. In the end there's no way I say 560 with jerks like Goldberg and Mandich ****great Baseball guys Boog 790 Jesse 560 ***OK Baseball talk Ed Kaplan 560 Orlando Alzugaray 560 Joe Rose(to a certain point) 790 **up in air Howard David 560 Dan LeBatard 790 *the worst Golberg 560 Mandich 560 OJ McDuffie 790
June 26, 200519 yr I try to catch some of Boog's show every day on 790, he is by far the best and most informative when it comes to talking Marlins. Also enjoy Marc Eisenberg's show on the Ticket. Beside that, I usually will tune in to QAM for any other time of the day.
June 26, 200519 yr I say WQAM for several reasons. 1) They are the flagship and they can draw DVH and Roxy to comment. 2) 790's only real baseball person is Boog. WQAM has Jesse, DVH, Roxy, and Eddie K (somewhat Eddie) 3) WQAM has the ESPN Radio Baseball package and Sporting News Radio which both provide some good baseball talk occasionally about the Marlins in-depth. 4) You forgot Len Martez who is coming in after Jesse on 560 and he is decent on talking baseball. 5) goldie is a good host and when he is on and not calling the Panthers, he does plenty of good baseball talk. Marlins Extra is a big step in the right direction. I thank Ray Perry for allowing it to come true. I bitched and moaned to him for almost 2 years for a weekly show on WQAM and we got it. I don't like Boog's style of talking down to the listener/caller/guest. He sounds like a snob.
June 26, 200519 yr I agree with you Cape. Besides Boog, there really isn't much in the department of baseball knowledge over on 790. Meanwhile on 560, they have Jesse and it genuinely seems as though Big O, Curtis and even Howard David try to inject a heavy dose of Baseball into their shows. It may not be the best, but I guess its all we have.
June 26, 200519 yr WQAM management is slowly changing gears. they can only do so much, they walk a very tight rope. Miami talk radio just jumped many markets this season. Atlanta only has 790 The Zone and 680 The Fan. The Braves air on 640 WGST (which has a sports show in the evenings) and 96 Rock. Marlins and WQAM must work to get the baseball talk going. People want it.
June 26, 200519 yr Who is Jesse??? :mischief2 827275 Ramp's buddy who hosts WQAM's new Marlins Extra radio show every Sunday after the Marlins game.
June 26, 200519 yr I am enjoying the fact that WQAM's updates are including audio from the games now. They didn't do that for a long time.
June 26, 200519 yr Author I forgot about Curtis he really doesn't do anything for me, he's more of a parrot for Mandich agreeing with him on all the anti-Marlin issues Cape I disagree with you on the Boog thing. The guy brings some serious knowledge to the table along Pete Gammons on Tuesday. He's the only reason 790 for me gets the edge, but don't get me wrong 560 is really doing some good things...it just goes back to those two a-holes
June 26, 200519 yr Interesting...do you have any background on Jesse? His last name? Where is he from? How does he know Ramp? etc... Thanks!
June 26, 200519 yr 560 carries Kevin Wheeler overnights from Sporting News Radio. He is a University of Miami alum, but he is a Tigers fan. He talks baseball like crazy and Wheels, as he is known, is enjoyable. Boog sounds like a snob more and more everyday. Like a mini-Manbitch or mini-Goldberg. http://radio.sportingnews.com/shows/kevin_wheeler/index.html
June 26, 200519 yr As long as we have these 2 big sports stations and 1400 ESPN around....Marlins baseball will get talked about and the quality of talk radio will be better.
June 26, 200519 yr Jesse Agler is his name. Don't know much more. *puts out Ramp call* 827285 Did a quick Google search on "Jesse Agler"...looks like he has done some work for WVUM...University of Miami sports...
June 26, 200519 yr Lenny Martez is taking more baseball calls. People talking baseball on Miami Sportsradio and actually knowing wtf they are talking about. *dies*
June 26, 200519 yr Now to Ed's claims on 790, They carry Fox Sports Radio overnights and Jorge Sedano is the Heat Radio host and he does that shift for FSR. He is still in Miami doing the show and he likes to talk Marlins. He used to have a show on the now-dead 940 Fox Sports Radio experiment. On the other hand, DeFo sucks at baseball. So that evens out Sedano on 790.
June 26, 200519 yr The correct is neither. Except for two days last week Boog virtually ignores the Fish. And a flagship that fills it's morning and afternoon drive times with virulently anti-Marlins rhetoric doesn't deserve consideration either. The both are an embarrassment to South Florida and Marlins fans generally and the only question is which sucks worse.
June 26, 200519 yr Marlins2003, Not everyone has WEEI as their sportsradio station. However, the 2 stations in question are doing better than what was available a year ago this time. Fatberg and Manbitch will change before the Marlins on WQAM.

June 26, 200519 yr You are dreaming. 827301 No I am not. Fatberg and Manbitch see ratings go up and down. Marlins baseball on WQAM has not been bad since 1993. In fact, it has been very consistent at either growing share or staying put from year-to-year. Name markets where baseball talk is good other than Boston or Cincinnati.
