Now a caller calls in kissing up (sounds like someone at WQAM faking a call) on the Marlins coverage today and asking about the Padres in 1984 and if they could have taken the Yanks....something like that.

I can't give a specific name but the station in general was very pro baseball with alot of knowledge. San Diego is somewhat of a melting pot with all the military out there, so the baseball talk was general teams(Phillies, NY, etc.)
June 26, 200521 yr Ed...are you sitting down. Back about 6 months ago I would have agreed with you. however XTRA 690 is no longer. It was flipped to 570 AM and has lost much of its Padres coverage. However, Hacksaw is still there and rocking with the sports. In San Diego, the Padres have affiliated with the Mighty 1090 which is no where near the quality 690 once had. I don't always agree with Boog but he only sounds like a snob when he gets idiotic calls like "Fire xyz", "trade xyz" "Trade Enc and Treanor for Adam Dunn and Ken Griffey Jr." He gets alot of garbage calls where it would be absurd for him not to berate the caller.

June 27, 200521 yr I think 790 is better for Marlins talk on the accord that they have more to offer than the flagship station. 790 has Boog - former color man for the Marlins for three hours a day almost 5 days a week (except when he is calling a game for ESPN) 790 has the Mike Lowell show 790 has the David Samson show (even though it is more movie talk than baseball they still have the Marlins team president on every week) 790 also has Joe Rose talking to McKeon almost on a weekly basis.... now that is a lot of coverage for the team that doesn't carry their games Over on 560 you have Eddie K, who is knowledgable, but honestly...don't know enough about Roxy to comment on him but it hurts to listen to DVH...he calls his game so slow...that i can fall asleep...being bi-lingual i tend to listen to Felo more often than I do to 560 for Marlins games..... Any how that i just my opinion...take it for what it is worth.....a whole penny for my thoughts

June 27, 200521 yr To think, when DVH started calling Expos games in 1969 the FCC (Expos Network was on the US side of the border) wanted him to explain what it specifically meant. There was a controversial song which used the phrase to describe the action of a bodily fluid, another that used it to describe the space race, and DVH using it to describe baseball.

June 27, 200521 yr Local radio / random thoughts: Big O QAM - was a real Marlin-hater in 2002-2003. I will never forgive him. DeFo 790 - Badly needs a sidekick. Unlistenable solo. Moe QAM - Everyone at QAM hates him. Gone soon. Jesse A QAM - Rising star - good show - props! Eddie K QAM - A real fan. Pulls for the Marlins. Great for "drive home", except strip club ads offend my other half. Boog 790 - Harbors a bit of anger at Marlins management. Wanted to be #1 voice when OB left. Mandy/Goldby QAM - The worst. Hurt them by writing critical letters and cc: their biggest advertisers (DryConcepts, YaleMortgage, Shorties, WarrenHenryVolvo, Grand Prize Chevrolet,.........) JoeZ QAM - Solid on baseball, more on UM than MLB. Rose 790 - Brings positive spin. Fair & entertaining.
