You people are waaayy too obsessed with Willingham. Sure he has great numbers, but it is TRIPLE A, and more importantly, it is in a ballpark(Albuquerque) where EVERYONE hits. Albuquerque is a city which is thousands of feet above sea level (like Colorado) so the offensive numbers are going to be better than they should be.

Josh Willingham is nothing special and shouldn't be starting ahead of PROVEN major leaguers...

he was hitting for power in Carolina too

and the only way to become a proven major leaguer is to get some PT, no?

True, but check the triple A stats. There are tons of guys there with good stats. Should we give them all a shot? No. We are fighting to win the NL East and need to use our proven guys. It doesn't help that Willingham is a liability defensively...

why do I need to see his Triple A stats? I know what he can do. Willingham is just a liability at catcher and is improved from last year(not saying much)

I'm saying check the triple A stats of the whole team. There are alot of guys on the Isotopes with great numbers, that doesn't mean we should give them all a shot. I am pretty sure the Marlins scouting staff knows what Willingham can do and if they thought he would improve this team by starting him, then they would do that.

He is a liability defensively period. Anywhere he plays. Obviously Cabrera is a below average left fielder and Delgado is a below average first baseman, but they both make up with it by having All-Star bats. Willingham is not a Cabrera or Delgado at the plate.

he may or may not be (Cabs or Delgado) at the plate... only one way of knowing though

and fine, his numbers may be inflated because of where he plays, but he still blows away everyone on his team with OBP and SLG and obviously OPS

No, you need to check the stats. We all know the PCL is a good hitters league, but Willy wasn't just putting up good numbers he was leading the league in OBP and Slugging. While in the top 5 in average, homers, and rbis.

Watch They'll give him 1 at-bat in a week then they'll give him a start around Thursday and he'll go 0-3 or 0-4 and people here will wonder why he's not hitting. It's not hard to figure out though, he needs regular at-bats to be successful. Look at Dillon, he came up and played in the first 2 or 3 games he was up and was crushing the ball. He didn't play for a week after that, and he never got back to that level.

If Willingham was in our lineup every day he'd be our 4th best hitter, behind only Cabs, Delgado and Castillo. We need his bat in the lineup, we're hurting for a 3rd power hitter in this lineup, Cabs and Delgado can't do it all.

I agree completely, farmer, and it should be noted that he hit all those HR's and RBI's with many fewer AB's than the other league leaders. The SLG% and OBP% are truly astounding. It should also be noted that his hitting numbers have improved every year and at every level, not just from AA to AAA.

Way to root for the Marlins

no matter what line up we put up there it will always depend upon 2 players for this team. Juan Pierre and Luis Castillo. If they are hitting and getting on we will win. If not we are in trouble. Miggy will do his duty normally and delgado rarely has an off night
