The 1927 Yankees lineup are regarded as the best team to ever set foot on a baseball diamond. The Legendary George Herman "Babe" Ruth, probably the most famous baseball player ever, headed this team with ungodly numbers. He batted .356, belted a then record 60 homeruns which was untouched for 34 years, 164 Rbis, a .772 Slugging Pct. with 158 runs. The 2nd punch in "murderers row", Lou Gehrig, put up some awesome numbers as well. He crushed 47 homeruns, had an amazing 175 Rbis, batted .373, 52 doubles, 18 triples, 218 hits, 149 runs, and an amazing .765 slugging percentage. Five of the Nine starters had averages over .300. Earle Combs batted .356 and had 237 hits. Waite Hoyt headed up the rotation with a 22 - 7 record and a 2.63 ERA. Herb Pennock also had an impressive year with a 19 - 8 record, 3.00 ERA and 18 complete games. No All Star game prior to 1933. 1951 Giants 98 - 59 NL Pennant Lost World Series (4-2) to New York Yankees The 1951 Giants are best known for the 1 game playoff against the Brooklyn Dodgers. The shot heard 'round the world by Bobby Thomson will have this team forever in the mind of baseball fans. Thomson spearheaded the Giants offense with 32 homers, 101 runs batted in, .293 batting average and a nice .562 slugging percentage. Monte Irvin also had a spectacular season. He batted .312, had 24 homeruns and 121 Rbis. A young "Say hey kid" Willie Mays had a solid season with 20 homers, 68rbis and a .274 BA. Their 3 top pitchers were outstanding in '51.
