Why this season is imploding

Featured Replies

I've been watching the Marlins since 1993. This year's edition is the most talented team yet. Yet, they are underperforming worse than any other Marlins team. It's hard to watch, and very frustrating. I think that the reason is that there was one big difference about this year's team compared to all others. This year,

they were EXPECTED to win for the first time. They knew that the pieces were in place, all they had to do was perform. This can be a tough position to be in, and so far the team has shown that they are not up to the task. It's a lot easier to perform when people question your talent. This year there was no question. I don't think it's a lack of heart....it's more not responding to the pressure. Sometimes when you're trying too hard and not succeeding it can appear like something it is not.

There is no answer to this predicament. And unfortunately these things most often don't reverse themselves. As fans, we can hope that this year they do manage to turn it around and perform to their talent. The answer is not to dump the manager. That is something that historically is unsuccessful. The Marlins of 2003 were one of the very few times that worked. The answer is not to make trades for the sake of making trades. The pieces of a championship team are in place right now, just as they were on April 1. To think that things will change by switching out Lowell and Pierre for 2 other players is unreasonable. The problem is more than Lowell and Pierre. Perhaps firing Robinson can achieve something. I don't give him the credit for our WS win in 2003, and I don't blame him for our offensive woes now. He's the same Robinson then as now. It's the players mental states that have changed. A pitching coach is important at the MLB level, but I think a hitting coach at the MLB level is a minor position. Maybe a change there, though really a benign move, may spark something.

I know that most of you like to stay up nights dreaming of trades, but I really don't think that's the answer. The bottom line is that we are stuck with the most talented overall ballclub in MLB. As fans, we just have to hope that they'll perform. It's very frustrating.

If you don't think a hitting coach matters go talk to the Indians.

They went from the worst hitting team in the league to the 3rd worst, yeeeees! Since Murray was fired the Indians team ERA has been tops, or near it, in the league.

For comparisons sake since Murray was fired the Indians team ERA has been 3.37, and the Marlin's team ERA has been 5.00.

The point is they improved offensively. It's hard to go racing up the charts when you were as bad as they were offensively as long as they were. They've had good pitching all year. Now that their offense is improving they've made a charge up the standings to get into wild card contention.

At the end of the day, all that matters is the final score. Who knows if firing their hitting coach is the grand solution to the problem, or if it's the pitching doing even better than before. Fact is, the Indians have a much better record now than they did then. All that matters.

When Murray was fired at the beginning of June, Cleveland was 29th in batting average in baseball. In June they're 10th in MLB. They were 28th in runs scored in April, 22nd in May, but since they fired Murray they are 3rd in runs scored in MLB.

I think it is time to fire robinson. I have been supporting him for what he did in 2003 but this is getting old. Last night was carlos and miggy whom you wanted up really. But nobody can get hits and all otherwise. I think honestly we need to get someone new for the hitting coach.

The reason that this team is falling is found in one name----Ozzie Guillen. When he was here, we saw a team that never quit and didn't make baserunning mistakes. Also, and most important, we didn't see a team that was waiting around for a 3-run homer like they are now.

Admin, do something!!! How many games out of first do we need to be?

Don't know if I agree there is any one reason, but the archives herein will evidence that my support of Ozzie as Manager goes back two years.

My next favorite is Mordy, but he needs at least a Season managing in the Minors.

(That said, I'd like to see Cox fired and Mordy brought up right now to coach 3B.

We need some "Ozzie energy" and Mordy is the closest we have.)

I don't see Jack as a "team player" anymore. For him, it's all about Jack surrounding himself with his cronies. (Perry is the only exception.)

Mordecai at 3B is a good suggestion. I also agree with you greatly about Jack and his cronies. That is one of the reasons that I feel that almost the entire coaching staff needs to go with Jack and wait for the 3-run homer in the privacy of their own homes. It seems that we have the only Social Security eligible coaching staff in baseball. Even Bobby Cox brings in young coaches. It seems like we are looking at a baseball team from before the 1950s before basestealing started to be used more consistently. Yeah, Jack and his coaching staff were teenagers then weren't they? Let's do the math. It's so sad when someone stays in sports until they are embarrassed out of it.

Then lets start telling the players that they suck. Let them know it at home games. Tell them they are lousy, good for nothing, underachieving wussies best suited for AA ball if that. Maybe then they will be motivated to play well.

High expectations this year. Expected to seriously compete for WS. Never had expectations like this in team history. Too much pressure to just play like they had in past. Team can't take the pressure.

No answer for situation. Team roster is still best in MLB. No need to change roster. Coaches same as 2003 WS winning team. No need to change coaches. Players need to perform.

97's team had expectations.

The team has no balls.

HAHA.... That reminds me of the japanese guy in the movie Major League II...

"You have no.... MARBLES !!!"

Maybe they need someone like him.

This team is definitely lacking the Asian guy with a good personality.

I think having Yokozuna on this team would be tight.

These guys weren't onthe 1996 or 1997 team, save a couple of those comeback guys + Louie. The orginization isn't even the same.

When were any of these guys SUPPOSE to win a division? Last year? That worked out well.

And if this doesn't change, something needs to be done to break the tension, because the Marlins are not in the business of staying stagnant. Maybe you disagree, but I think 74 games is long enough for personnel to have proved if they are deserving to keep their key roles.

I tell you what my theory is... these guys are too busy feeling sorry for themselves. It's time to suck it up and be professional ball players. Stop blaming McKeon and play some damn ball. This teams attitude simply stinks. Mike Lowell hit a screaming liner last night into Betimit's glove at third and he looked like he was going to cry with that "why me?" face going. JP is dragging around with a frown. Try having a little fun out there. It sure will make the games a little better to watch.

I agree. And Cabrera I believe just stayed in between first and second in astonishment of the line drive catch if im correct. Have some fun. Be happy.
