Who did we trade Ambres for?

Featured Replies

Does anyone remember who we dealt Ambres for? Or did we? I just know he was dealt to KC for Graffinino...and he is doing pretty well for KC right now.

I seem to recall he was given his release and was signed by the Red Sox...I don't think he was involved in any deal.

He wasn't traded. I believe that he signed with Boston in the offseason as a 6-year minor league free agent.

That could be one of the bone-headedists moves of our organization. Oh well, cant win them all...

Ambres was a Rule 5 Draft Free Agent with the Marlins. That means if the player did not make the 25 man roster, he would become a free agent. Ambres signed with the Red Sox.

why?

Up until this year he hadnt even made it to AAA. His career batting average is somewhere near .250. He was our 1998 first round pick. B U S T

and what would you have suggested we do with him? We dont play our young positional players remember?

Ambres was a six year free agent, he was no longer on the Marlins 40 man roster and was signed for no compensation by the Red Sox. He didn't do a whole lot within the system but was a solid enough player for some really good teams (e.g. 02 Jupiter, 03 Carolina). In the long run the Marlins may regret letting him go, but I don't think anymore so than letting other players like OMG Nunez, Kevin Hooper or Matt Erickson.

And it only attests to how good this club has had it with the FO.

Thanks for making my point for me, Ramp...once again. :thumbup
