July 29, 200520 yr Does anyone remember who we dealt Ambres for? Or did we? I just know he was dealt to KC for Graffinino...and he is doing pretty well for KC right now.
July 29, 200520 yr I think he might have been released after being taken off the 40-man roster, but I'm not sure...
July 29, 200520 yr I seem to recall he was given his release and was signed by the Red Sox...I don't think he was involved in any deal.
July 29, 200520 yr He wasn't traded. I believe that he signed with Boston in the offseason as a 6-year minor league free agent.
July 29, 200520 yr Author That could be one of the bone-headedists moves of our organization. Oh well, cant win them all...
July 29, 200520 yr Ambres was a Rule 5 Draft Free Agent with the Marlins. That means if the player did not make the 25 man roster, he would become a free agent. Ambres signed with the Red Sox.
July 29, 200520 yr That could be one of the bone-headedists moves of our organization. 878775[/snapback] why? Up until this year he hadnt even made it to AAA. His career batting average is somewhere near .250. He was our 1998 first round pick. B U S T and what would you have suggested we do with him? We dont play our young positional players remember?
July 29, 200520 yr Ambres was a six year free agent, he was no longer on the Marlins 40 man roster and was signed for no compensation by the Red Sox. He didn't do a whole lot within the system but was a solid enough player for some really good teams (e.g. 02 Jupiter, 03 Carolina). In the long run the Marlins may regret letting him go, but I don't think anymore so than letting other players like OMG Nunez, Kevin Hooper or Matt Erickson.
