Phillies tried hardcore to get Pierre

Featured Replies

"In the end, the only difference-making starter on the market was Burnett. Teams scrambled to get him. The Phils, according to sources, offered Vicente Padilla, Kenny Lofton and Urbina for Burnett and centerfielder Juan Pierre. The Marlins weren't interested in seeing Burnett end up with an NL East rival, though. That didn't stop the Phils from trying to make a three-way deal for Burnett over the last 48 hours, but by then the Marlins had decided to keep Burnett because they were winning, he was pitching well, and their clubhouse would have turned mutinous had they dealt him."

No wonder Ed Wade is such a joke and Beinfest is a genius.

oh man, what an offer! how could we turn that down??!!

Even if we were willing to give up a Marlin, the Phillies didn't have anybody available we needed.

Thome/Howard (see Delgado), Bell (ugh), Wagner (why?), Urbina (we could've just picked up Danny Graves), Hamels (see our own pitching prospects), Padilla (see Contreras or Arroyo)

I'd take Hamels....

They offered us Lofton? Ugh... if it was Wagner, Urbina and Padilla we should have pulled the trigger but Padilla, urbina and Lofton... ugh... give me Mo Vaughn instead.

If they had offered Wagnar, Myers I would of done it for Pierre and AJ. But, otherwise there is no reason I am moving Pierre off. Sorry, but that would of made us total and complete sellers.

Lofton is too old, Padilla is damaged goods, and Urbina hasn't been lights out since coming to the NL East again...that would have been a horrible deal if it had happened...Just shows you that Ed Wade should be grilling Phillies Phranks instead...

I Wouldnt have done it. Even though were getting good people in return i don't want to offer one of our Aces to a rival, especially in our division.

Hamel, Myers, and Howard and you have a deal. I dont care if we have Delgado at first, it would be awesome to have two power left handers on the team. :D

Take that thought of yours one step farther. Where would he play? The Phillies tried and failed to make him an outfielder during winter ball, spring training and the minors.
