Papa Roach or Linkin Park

Featured Replies

Papa Roach's main single, last resort I think, had a crappy video with too much stereotyping hoping they could attract the supposed rejects. And I don't like the way Jocoby sings.

I don't listen to Linkin Park too much nowadays. But I liked their songs for awhile.I voted Linkin Park.

I liked Infest because of the songs that werent Last Resort....singles always get overplayed on MTV or whatever.

Unfortunately, all the good songs eventually made it to the radio and were overplayed.

Linkin Park...the whole cd is good....even on Meteora.

Both albums went platinum and started Rap Metal which one is better?

LOL! Both bands suck, and neither one of them started rap metal. It didn't take long for people to forget about Anthrax, Rage Against the Machine, Urban Dance Squad, and 311. As it is, Limp Bizkit are innovators compared to those 2 bands.

who cares about innovators...we're talking about what band you like better. I guess I can't like any band that hasn't created a new genre of music. That's a shame.

Linkin Park & Papa Roach are not original nor good. They sound like every other band on generic rock radio right now.

And, to go out and say they "created rap metal" is an insult to the genre. Didn't they come out like 3 years ago or something? I'm suprised people still buy their records.

And it is possible to like Linkin Park if you don't like "rock", because they aren't "rock".

I agree.

Although I do like both bands.

Metallica will always be #1 in my book.

You're free to like whoever you want. Every band doesn't have to be an innovator, but don't say a band is an innovator when it's not. Linkin Park and Papa Roach started rap metal about as much as Bush started grunge and 'NSync started boy bands.

Fish Fry, I think you might be the only one besides me that would think of Anthrax in the rock/rap catagory. Even before "Attack of the Killer B's" when Anthrax and Public Enemy teamed up withBring the Noise was "I'm the man". It was supposed to be a funny song....I wonder if they knew how far it would go. You can even make a point saying RunDMC was the first covering Walk this Way. Anyone earlier than that?

I never said they were innovators...i still like em. And, isnt this a bit silly...arguing over the innovators of rap-rock.

You could put Run DMC in that category not only for "Walk This Way" but "King of Rock", but they were more like innovators of the idea, rather than the genre itself. I don't think anyone was before them, because of the severe dislike between rap and rock (musicians and fans) in the '80s. Anthrax was about the only rock act that embraced rap back then (even if a lot of their songs weren't rock with rapped lyrics). Before Anthrax teamed up with Public Enemy, Sir Mix-A-Lot (of all people) teamed up with Metal Church when he did "Iron Man". That was the first ever actual team-up of a rap and a metal act that I could recall.

It's not silly at all. You said they "started Rap Metal", and neither one of those bands came close to starting the genre. There were much better bands that were around 8 - 12 years ago that had a whole lot more to do with starting rap metal than Linkin Park or Papa Roach ever did. Saying Linkin Park and Papa Roach started Rap Metal is like saying Puff Daddy and Mase started rap and Poison and Warrant started metal.

"You said they "started Rap Metal", and neither one of those bands came close to starting the genre."

Find where I said that.

Actually, Walk This Way started Rap - Rock

Yes, that was the first ever cooperation between a rock group and a rap group (Aerosmith and Run DMC).

Well, it wasn't you. It was the guy who started this thread. That's who I was responding to. It's right there at the top of this thread.
