August 31, 200521 yr hmmm the 2 times I have been fortunate to have met him he has been real cool maybe you should shower more often 923426 :lol
August 31, 200521 yr Hey AJ, if you'd learn to keep your mouth shut and down your job, maybe you wouldn't have gotten your @$$ handed to you in your last two starts. :thumbdown
August 31, 200521 yr I think he'll go to whoever gives him the most money... and as history has told us in the past... the good ole Yankees tend to over pay i.e. Carl Pavano... is what he has done this year really worth 11 million. Also see Jaret Wright... With the Yankees starting rotation looking like crap and them getting rid of Brown I think they will make a hard push at getting A.J. Not too mention there isn't going to be a whole lot else out there come free agency and they will push their dollars around.
August 31, 200521 yr I understand kylekash about the ticket plan. It is the same plan the heat have added as well. (theirs was worse requiring 3 years sales). So it seems to be the current policy for teams down here (except the dolphins). That being said, it doesnt make it right in any way, shape or form. I myself am in much the same boat as you so I understand your feelings. I think the players should encourage those of us that do come as often as we do to the games. A saying of thank you often goes a longer way then negative press. It seems the marlins in this article are doing a good cop (Jonez) and bad cop (aj) almost. So who knows.
August 31, 200521 yr Hey AJ, if you'd learn to keep your mouth shut and down your job, maybe you wouldn't have gotten your @$$ handed to you in your last two starts. :thumbdown 923439 ..... but of course if you win another 7 games in a row, people wont continue to bother with these threads.
August 31, 200521 yr Hey AJ, if you'd learn to keep your mouth shut and down your job, maybe you wouldn't have gotten your @$$ handed to you in your last two starts. :thumbdown 923439 His 7 IP and 2 ER in his second to last start was getting his ass handed to him? And Im shocked we didnt see any complaining from the Marlin 'faithful' when he had his 6 game stretch of 6 wins, a 0.78 ERA, and 33 K's in 46 innings. Face it, your attendence does suck. Its not debatable. When teams like the Pirates and Rockies who havent been playing for anything all year can beat your figures, in smaller markets and much worse teams, its sad.
August 31, 200521 yr Why shouldnt he be able to voice his concern? Im sure its a helluava lot harder to get up for and give your all in front of 20,000 people then it is when you have a good atmosphere and see more people in the stand then orange. 923428 sure, why not? it is a free country and he is under contract and he gets paid no matter how much he pisses off the FO or the fans down here. But is this the right thing to do? All is he doing is venting his frustration. Are his comments attrackting more fans? Is he supposed to help the Marlins FO while he wears the uniform? Do you think the FO is happy with these comments?
August 31, 200521 yr The thing that sucks the most is when I bought the tickets this year (and last, I have been a season ticket holder 2 years in a row) they guarentee you playoff priority. But truthfully, you don't get the priority for being a ticket holder in '05 you get it for being the ticket holder in '06. So next year, rather then sraping up everything I can to buy a season ticket plan I'll just wait til the end of the year when you get priority for buying '07 tickets in September if they are in the race... I'm kind of dissapointed with this ploy. They basically don't care that you are an '05 ticket holder... they just want your money for '06. It's a crime really.

August 31, 200521 yr Todd is the best. Whenever I see him at BP, he's talking to fans or saying hi to them when others don't even look their way.

August 31, 200521 yr ofcourse it was fair... they know they have 0 shot of resigning him. They wanted to get the most they could for him. He knew the situation coming into the season. AJ was being talked about a trade in the winter meetings. It's not something out of the blue, like say if they started shopping Willis or Cabrera. Everyone was well aware this was going to be AJ's last year. It all started when he came out and ran his mouth about how excited he was about being a free agent and getting wined and dined... the season hadn't even started yet and he never proved anything... he has a nice run this year and that would increase his value, but personally I would not make a big investment into a player with a history of inconsistant performance and injury.
August 31, 200521 yr I still stand by my theory that the Marlins need a stadium you can drop by, rather than one that you trek to for an event. You go to a baseball game. You go to the football game. 923384 Too bad there's no place in South Florida where everyone can just drop by. Unless the state feels like investing in some teleportation equipment, that is. :mischief2 923400 Or better public transportation. :whistle

Do you want him to be a robot or a human being? I dont recall him complaining about the trade rumors (and yes Front offices can keep trades under wraps and secretive). He didnt know where he could be playing from one start to the next. He couldve complained and crapped out on the mound, and he didnt. There are probably countless players on your squad that think the same way that Burnett does, they just dont make it public. If this was Willis, Cabs, or Castillo no one would be on him like you guys are with Burnett. He will be one of the biggest cogs on the team if you guys make the playoffs and im sure there will be no bitching when he goes 7 innings, gives up one earned, and strikes out 8. With all the 'fan support' this guy recieves, Im shocked he isnt chomping at the bit to re-signs with the team.
August 31, 200521 yr I always maintain that I always take with a grain of salt what somebody who claims to ?know? or ?saw?, or ?dealt with?, yada yada an athlete or entertainer whether they call them a jerk or a great person. Anybody can say or write that just to make a point, and usually the person who calls the athlete/entertainer a jerk is some loser who was bugging the athlete/entertainer for an autograph while the guy is eating dinner with their family, etc. in a restaurant, and then gets pissed off when they don?t get the autograph. As for the thin-skinned out there who get all upset the moment some media member or athlete is not saying something positive about the Marlins or stroking your ego about how great your team is....relax! It's just like the UM Football fans who love a writer because he says that UM will beat Team "X", but the moment that the same writer says that Team "Y" will beat UM, then the writer is an idiot, and so forth.

I'm sure other players think like AJ, but what's the point of venting your frustration and alinieting the fan support? What he owes to the Marlins? nothing really. He deserved his opportunity and pay check. But why work against them?
August 31, 200521 yr there is a difference between bugging someone while eating a meal and saying hi while they are walking out the door. It is really that hard to smile and nod? What would make someone roll their eyes and walk away? Then while at a stadium getting the same treatment? The guy openly complains about no fan support, but then he blows fans off... does that not make someone a jerk? Let's say for example you're leaving a building while I'm walking in. You say hi just to be friendly and I roll my eyes at you and walk away... will you not think I'm a jerk? I asked the guy for an autograph once, during BP in washington. If he didn't want to sign he could have said I'm not signing today or something along those lines. Why say I'll sign at 7:10 when it is a 7:05 start? To me that makes him a jerk. It's just his presence and the way he goes about his business. Todd Jones is a professional, he knows how to handle people. The same holds true for anything else. If you come to a resturant and the hostess rolls his/her eyes at you when you ask to put your name on the list, does that not send a bad image? When you are wearing your company's uniform you are supposed to represent them in a good manor. But that's just my opinion. I personally don't think the guy is a good person... he complains a lot, he has a huge ego, and he thinks he is top notch. Sometimes you just have to show a little class, and Burnett in my opinion doesn't show it very often.

August 31, 200521 yr AJ is gone no matter what. We know that. He wants to pitch in the limelight and hell, I dont blame him. If I were a pitcher, I would rather pitch at Yankee Stadium, Wrigley, or Fenway myself. Marlin fans can't even compare.
