If we want to have any hope of getting ahead in this playoff race Lowell must sit. There are several options but my favorite would be to move Cabrera to 3rd and Hermida goes to LF.

The only situation being similar was Pat Burell's meltdown in 2003...Were they in the playoff hunt that year? Didn't Pat bat like .200 for the season? That might have cost them the playoffs if you think about it. Something to think about...

 

This is not a Lowell bashing thread by the way, I just think the time has come. The playoffs are within reach, but we need a little more offense. Who know's maybe benching Lowell isn't the answer. I just can't see any legitimate reason why we should stick with him right now.

Based on what? Scouts say he's done and he's shown me little to discount that. He was terrible in the 2nd half last year too.

 

I hope he regains his all star form but dont count on it.

Mike can work in the offseason and start playing great next spring. Hopefully that's what happens, but that doesn't change what's going on right. It's become painful watching him play so horribly and it's clear there's no way he turns it around this year after so many chances.

 

There's a guy on a bench right now whose one of the top prospects in the game and can really jump start the offense, or at least play better than Lowell. We know what we're going to get from Lowell if he stays: strikeouts, groudouts, and pop outs 80% of the time with solid defense. The way I see it, Hermida can't do much worse than Lowell since people don't call someone a top prospect for fun, this guy is for real.

I can't be a bigger supporter of Lowell's, but his lack of offense has hurt the club this season. He's a hell of a fielder and if his offensive numbers were up he'd be a shoe-in to win the GG, especially with Rolen hurt. As far as I'm concerned the Marlins would be better off using Niner in LF and Cabs @3B and use Mikey as a defensive replacement.

Again, even if you doubt Hermida, the fact of the matter is that Hermida simply has to do better than hit .230 with no-power. And even if he does that, at least he's a lefty hitting .230 with no-power.

 

Throw defense out the window. IMO, we're a stronger team with Hermida in left and Cabs at 3rd than we are with Mikey at 3rd and Cabs in left...yes, I think it's gotten that bad.

Yeah, gotta say, it's time to get him outta there. It is just getting so brutal now. You know it's an automatic out. It's sad to see him disintegrate like this. I dunno how we are going to rid ourselves of his huge contract either. ouch.

These drugs are available legally only by prescription, to treat conditions that occur when the body produces abnormally low amounts of testosterone, such as delayed puberty and some types of impotence. They are also prescribed to treat body wasting in patients with AIDS and other diseases that result in loss of lean muscle mass. Abuse of anabolic steroids, however, can lead to serious health problems, some irreversible.

 

Today, athletes and others abuse anabolic steroids to enhance performance and also to improve physical appearance. Anabolic steroids are taken orally or injected, typically in cycles of weeks or months (referred to as ?cycling?), rather than continuously. Cycling involves taking multiple doses of steroids over a specific period of time, stopping for a period, and starting again. Health Hazards

Scientific research also shows that aggression and other psychiatric side effects may result from abuse of anabolic steroids. Many users report feeling good about themselves while on anabolic steroids, but researchers report that extreme mood swings also can occur, including manic-like symptoms leading to violence. Depression often is seen when the drugs are stopped and may contribute to dependence on anabolic steroids. Researchers report also that users may suffer from paranoid jealousy, extreme irritability, delusions, and impaired judgment stemming from feelings of invincibility. 1

 

Research also indicates that some users might turn to other drugs to alleviate some of the negative effects of anabolic steroids. For example, a study of 227 men admitted in 1999 to a private treatment center for dependence on heroin or other opioids found that 9.3 percent had abused anabolic steroids before trying any other illicit drug. Of these 9.3 percent, 86 percent first used opioids to counteract insomnia and irritability resulting from the anabolic steroids.

Now, cancer is a side effect, but most of the crippling effects (infertility, testicle shrinking) already came from Mike's treatment for testicular cancer; so I know you'll say I'm sick for saying this, but it's almost like he didn't have that much more to lose, and if you believe Canseco (which I think a lot more of us should now), if you do the cycle correctly, and know what you're putting in your body, you won't have serious adverse side-effects. And don't a lot of the side effects seem to be illustrated by Mikey's career. :mischief2

I'm all for it.

 

But he isn't producing this season, and we need to do what's best for us this season and cross the bridge of next season when it comes time.

Not only should Lowell be benched to let Cabs play 3rd and let Niner play Left, but at this point he should seriously consider giving Conine his number back. We need a single number we know we can retire when Conine retires. And One-Nine (19) seems like the best choice.
