Posted September 4, 200519 yr Lowell came from the same district I played in, when I was in High School. He is one of my favorite players. He really is one of SF's own. He's also killing us offensively this year: 1. Zero pop this year. 6 Homeruns? What's going on? Conclusion: There is something physically wrong with him. He looks old and sluggish. Maybe they're "really" testing this year and he can't take his "pep" pills anymore. No, I don't mean steroids, more like amphetamines. 2. He seems mentally distant. Near the trading deadline he seemed to get some pep back and actually played better. ( Do you guys remember?) I thought he was going to turn it around. He swings at clear "balls" all the time. He doesn't wait for his pitch anymore. Today in his 3rd "at bat", every pitch he swung at was a ball. (not a close ball either) In other words he's lost his focus. Conclusion: There's something mentally wrong with him. Maybe he'll turn it around next year, but this year he needs to sit for a while. Maybe he can clear his mind. So, do you keep one of the "worst" hitters in the league on a team that struggles offensively(with players like Conine on the bench) in there just for his glove? Traditionally, the "glove" positions are shortstop and second base because so many balls get hit there that even if they are poor offensively, they can still help your team overall. 3rd base is such a reactionary postition and not as many balls get hit there so you can sacrafice a little defense for offense. Miguel is actually pretty good at 3rd base. Unless Jack knows something we don't, I can't see any reason why Lowell should keep his job. Third and first base are "offensive" infield positions on good baseball teams. Something must be done, Sorry Mikey. Maybe next year or later this year when you get your head out of your arse... regards, Alex
September 4, 200519 yr I agree. I've been supportive of leaving him in & letting him try to play his way out of this probably as long as anyone. But I can't support letting him start every game during this final month while the team's in a playoff chase and he shows no signs of improvement. I don't know how solid Cabrera will be at 3rd, but I think it has to be done. We don't score runs already, and having a power position reduced to a marginal singles hitter is just too much. If he was even the doubles hitter he was before the home run power came, I could live with that. But not only are the homers not coming back, there are no doubles anymore either. Hell, there aren't even enough singles.
September 4, 200519 yr I love Mike but you gotta be realistic Jack! Hes gotten enough chances! We need offense! SIT HIM DOWN! :mad
September 4, 200519 yr The guy does nothing but provide solid D at third. We need a spark. Sit this guy down.
September 4, 200519 yr I love Mikey but he needs to be benched... Just put Miggy at 3rd and Hermida in Right. We have nothing to lose because Mikey did NOTHING!
September 4, 200519 yr I totally agree, even if they dont play Hermida just take Mike out of the lineup.
September 4, 200519 yr I boo'ed him every time today. Other Marlins fans should boo him like they boo a relief pitched for not doing his job. He really should not start a game because he isnt helping this team at all.
September 4, 200519 yr By the way............ does anyone know which is the official Mike Lowell bashing thread? I cant differentiate between the 3 pages of topics I found. :lol

September 4, 200519 yr get him back on the roids if he gets caught, he will still be out of the lineup its a win-win situation :plain

I mean, I don't wish injury on him, but that's about the only way to get him out of the lineup without having him go through serious bodily harm.
September 5, 200519 yr STEROIDS!!!! 5mph off his swing tells the whole story.... unfortunate...but true....
September 5, 200519 yr one thing, if you bench him you will never be able to trade him. Just something to consider. But, I dont know anymore. I have been his strongest of supporters but it is getting old.

He really should not start a game because he isnt helping this team at all. 929723[/snapback] People blasted me for saying to boo him, but he deserves it. Its part of his occupation and he has NOT performed.
September 5, 200519 yr yeah, but what does it accomplish that he, Lowell, does not already know. Do you really think he feels positive about his performance? A 3-time recent all star deserves better than some 'fans' booing him.

I still have high hopes for the guy, but the reality is that hes not performing. I would think that management would be realistic and stop thinking more ABs is gonna help him out when all they may be doing is making it worse.
