It's a shame D-Train

Featured Replies

It's really too bad D-Train had the stretch of 3 terrible games in a row.. if we could just whipe those out, he'd be having some sort of special season. He'd be a shoe-in for the CY.

"Those" 3 games: 0-3, 13 IP, 15.90 ERA

Minus "those" 3 games: 20-5, 1.58 ERA

Even with those games, he's still got good numbers.

I think it's more of a shame that he didn't win the Giants game (1-0) or that he got a N.D. against the Angels. Turn those into wins, and he's 22-7 and he's for certain the Cy Young winner.

yeah true but he is still having a great year.

Ya think??

;)

He would be the Cy Young favorite if he hadn't hit the wall for those three games. But, this could end up being good for him and the team. Overcoming adversity builds character and confidence. If we make the playoffs, nothing will faze him.

:thumbup

He could have had at least 2 more wins if it weren't for lack of run support.

So would his competitors.

The top ten NL SPs in ERA and their run support:

2. Carpenter 5.20

5. Willis 5.03

8. Martinez 5.03

10. Zambrano 4.64

9. Smoltz 4.59

3. Pettitte 4.52

7. Peavy 4.47

6. Oswalt 4.08

4. Patterson 3.96

1. Clemens 3.57

That stat was probably inflated somewhat for Willis by last night's scoring. A better indicator would provide us with a spread of the scoring. You know, like mean, median, standard deviation, etc.

Is that the runs the pitcher gets while on the mound or the total number of runs scored in the game?

Runs scored total.

D-Train has had his fair share of tough losses, but probably not much more than any one else or enough to give him extra points for it.

It's Carpenter's award to lose. He only has 4 less losses, and his ERA isn't 'that' much better. D Train has allowed less HR, and has one more shutout than Carp. D Train also pitches for a team that ranks very low in run scoring. Carp's team is kinda good, I think :whistle

There are 4 starts left (maybe 5). If D Train can go undefeated (not even winning all, just not losing), then he's got a shot. For example, if Carp loses 2 of the next 3, and his ERA goes up a bit, then this is what we 'could' be looking at:

Carp 20-6, 2.6 (?) ERA

Willis 22-8 2.3 (?) ERA.

It's not over!!!

A pitcher can have a dominant, unbelievable season without getting the CY.

Obviously

Clemens, Carpenter, DTrain... All 3 are having ridiculous years.

I'm not downplaying his season, just pointing out how great he's been minus those 3 starts.

He may not win it this year, but Dontrelle Willis has a good chance of becoming a Cy Young award winner sometime in his career. :mischief
