September 17, 200520 yr I've always shunned the idea and laughed at it. But seriously.... could we see Cabrera at SS? Are we almost forced too? I'm almost ready to say F it and go for it.
September 17, 200520 yr No. Why? We've brought up enough capable prospects to fill in for the ailing Easily and A-gon this year.
September 17, 200520 yr I'm going to have to say no as well. Miggy is just too large for shortstop nowadays. Granted, he came up at shortstop but at that age the best player always plays SS and I don't doubt he was the best.
September 17, 200520 yr no, then we would have s***ty defense (how long has he not played there?), and lowell would have to go to third, i would rather keep cabrera at third and give wilson or andino a shot over lowell

These rookies and less experienced players might choke in big game situations. At least Lowell has been there before. And his defense isn't too bad, either.

Defensively Andino appeared capable enough at last night's game but offensively he was late on every swing he took hitting foul balls and ground outs to the right side, by the bag at first more precisely. One gets the impression he just isn't ready to hit major league pitching. Wilson may get the start today, we'll see, but at this point neither one appears to be the idea solution. The only problem with Miggy at SS is that it means Mike Lowell is back at third and that leaves the team no better off offensively than Andino or Wilson in there at short. Sort of robbing Peter to pay Paul.
September 17, 200520 yr Moooooordyy? lol Cabrera's legs are so friggin big right now, I don't think he's athletic enough to play SS. When he was signed at 16 he was a skinny runt, but now he prob doesn't have the range to capably play SS. Who knows though, maybe he'll give it a shot in warmups today and see how it feels. Andino and Lowell will probably hit about the same anyway.
September 17, 200520 yr What I'm thinkin about is if we make the play-offs, and our Sep call-ups can't be on the final roster. If A-gon is still hurt then we're pretty much out of options.

September 17, 200520 yr Not going to happen. Easley has a sprained ankle. As long he gets rest it should be fine well before the postseason. And while Gonzalez' shoulder might be hurting, he has better range than either and roughly the same arm strength as Easley.
September 17, 200520 yr Has Joe Dillon played SS before? He would be eligible. 949790 No, and he's not even on the roster
September 17, 200520 yr Has Joe Dillon played SS before? He would be eligible. 949790 No, and he's not even on the roster 949812 I'm aware he's not currently on the roster. But he's eligible to play in the playoffs because he was on the team pre-Sept 1. If they're in a bind they could call him up. I knew he's played 2B and 3B in the past, wasn't sure if he had played SS.

September 17, 200520 yr He was saying if we reached the playoffs, would the team call up Dillon for shortstop depth. I highly doubt it. Not only as Dillon not played shortstop at any time the past two years and may have not since 10 years ago (he was a 3B in college). But by the playoffs, Easley will be healthy and Gonzalez will be willing to play hurt.
