Posted September 18, 200519 yr Rubio (R-Miami) will have a 2-year term as the Speaker of the Florida House starting in the 2006 Session.
September 18, 200519 yr The Marlins keep saying they are not going back to the Florida Legislature to ask for the tax rebate again this year. It looks like they should reconsider.
September 18, 200519 yr Author Marco Rubio is a very vocal/active supporter of the Marlins Ballpark. This secures the lower chamber for the next 2 years. Bense was good, but Rubio may get it done in that house much quicker. Lee has his last session as Senate President in 2006. By 2007, the Marlins should have very friendly leaders of both chambers.
September 18, 200519 yr Too little too late. Even IF they did go back and ask for state money and even IF the same deal is still on the table with the county and the city by that time, theyd need to ask for double what they were asking from the state before.
September 18, 200519 yr Author Well, supposedly they were asking for $60 million and only needed $30-45 million.
September 18, 200519 yr Well, supposedly they were asking for $60 million and only needed $30-45 million. 951801Â keep in mind that that 60 million is the future value of the 30-45 millions.
September 18, 200519 yr Author Every little bit helps, but I am not too sure that the Orange Bowl site may be in the future.
September 18, 200519 yr Author If push comes to shove, Dade County owns all that land around Dolphins Stadium....sure looks like a viable alternative in a desperate situation. Remember, the City of Miami was only putting in some land and a garage.   What has me thinking Miami Gardens? (From a County Memo)  There have been no formal reports on the Dolphins Stadium site, but to me there seems to be no objection of the location of the seperate facilities in Miami Gardens as long as the costs would make sense. I think that come 2006 and 2007, this site will take the lead. The Orange Bowl site is no longer realistic because of the rise in land value.
September 18, 200519 yr Why don't you think the OB site will be in the future? Which site do you think will be in the future?
September 18, 200519 yr Why don't you think the OB site will be in the future? Which site do you think will be in the future? 951824Â Â ok, forget it. You answered the question. But doesn't Wayne own that land surrounding Dolphins stadium?
September 18, 200519 yr Author I think the County and Marlins killed the OB site by mentioning it. Speculators moved in and prices rose. The Dolphins Stadium site is leased in part to Dolphins Stadium, but is owned by the County. I think a ballpark there could be feasable. The only costs would be a lease buyback of that section (Lease was $1 for 99 years for the entire parcel of land) and the building of the actual ballpark. Parking, transportation, and other infrastructure for a stadium are already there.
September 18, 200519 yr Author All the land between NW 26 AVE, NW 203 ST, NW 199 ST, and The Turnpike Entrance Ramp belongs to Dade County and it leased to Dolphins Stadium. The Miami-Dade County Commissioners have discretion over the use of the land other than for Dolphins home games and other NFL events.
September 18, 200519 yr But it says that funding issues on the Dolphins site would be similar to the OB or worse because it will lack the contribution from the city. If this is the case, this will stay at the OB because of the city of Miami contribution and to maintain that nice view of downtown especially for national TV.

He uses this inductive technique to get the commissioners thinking about the options at Dolphins Stadium. They then give him a directive to look there and he does. But there are no official reports on a baseball stadium at that site. Land costs are not an issue and the city would have contributed a parking garage, something not really needed at Dolphins Stadium. As for the view, from the right field concourses at Dolphins Stadium you can see downtown Miami's skyline. On Friday Night is was very pretty lit up. I should have taken a picture for you guys.

September 18, 200519 yr Author Is the view really that important? The blimp could still see downtown from DS.
September 18, 200519 yr No, but it would be very nice for a ballpark instead of having it all the way in suburbia.
September 18, 200519 yr Author Better having a ballpark in suburban Miami than a ballpark in suburban Las Vegas.
September 19, 200519 yr The Florida house isnt the issue it is the Senate and Lee is running for a higher ofifce state cfo (I think) on a personal note I think the marlins desperately need a new stadium although I can understand why politicians dont want to give any money yesterday with the D-Train pitching against a division rival in the thick of the play off race the attendance was not even 28000 I was there and I drove from gainesville it makes you wonder really if the Miami even cares about the Marlins , but honestly 60 million only one time is a drop in the bucket . The state should pitch in the Miami needs to help out BY GOING TO GAMES
September 19, 200519 yr I'm all for evaluating the benefits of building the new stadium next to Dolphin Stadium. It certainly will be more accessible to a good portion of the northern fan base. Cape you make a good point. If the City's only contribution was the land which has now become too exensive and a parking garage not needed at DS, then really why are they needed at all. The City stands to lose on this as it won't be able to use County funds to upgrade the OB site.
September 19, 200519 yr Wayne has plans to build his "Dolphins Village" on all that vacant land surrounding the stadium. The county will not donate any money to Waynes stadium.
September 19, 200519 yr I personally am more for a Dolphins Stadium location anyday. I would be able to keep my own season tickets then. I cant keep them if it is at the orange bowl sight and would go to about 10 games a year instead of 30-40 range. Â But, that is a personal issue. I rather have them in florida and go to 10 games then in las vegas and only go to Spring training games.
