September 27, 200521 yr Considering the situation of the Marlins in the off-season what moves are some of you looking for to hopefully improve the ballclub? What are some acqusitions that the Marlins need to make to improve and it has to be a move they can afford? What do you think?
September 27, 200521 yr Marlins need an OF, a closer, some bullpen as a whole (especially lefties), and a solid legitimate #3 starter type.
September 27, 200521 yr I saw a trade idea a couple days ago someone made up and i really liked it: Mike Lowell and Juan Pierre for Kyle Loshe and Tori Hunter.
September 27, 200521 yr I like Loshe, and then give Olsen the 5th spot in the rotation...but Hunter is going to make like $10 million
September 27, 200521 yr I've got a good trade, the whole marlins bullpen for a bag of sunflower seeds, none of them are worth a lick. I cant believe a team that wanted to contend had players like Messanger, Riedling, and freakin Mota. My god did they suck up a storm. We need to make a splash in free agency and bring in a legitamate closer and some solid bullpen pitchers. And someone please put Mecir out to pasture, he's done. If Mckeon could have used him anymore he'd been starting every 5th day my god mckeon let it go.
September 27, 200521 yr They tried that last winter and after months of misuse, abuse and injury we ended up with this underperforming cast.
September 27, 200521 yr ugh, lets leave these trade topics till after the season......there will be plenty........
September 27, 200521 yr Ok, unless I am missing something...there is no way the Fish trade Pierre in the offseason. He is too valuable for his price IFhe produces next season. The only realistic move I see is at the trade deadline next season if we manage to tank it.
September 27, 200521 yr Is anyone in the pen even resigned besides Villone, the rooks, and Mota (arby eligible)?
September 27, 200521 yr Author The only pitcher that you left out is John Rielding. Antonio Alfonseca has a vesting option to answer your question.
September 27, 200521 yr Is anyone in the pen even resigned besides Villone, the rooks, and Mota (arby eligible)? Alfie'll probably be back, eventhough his option won't trigger.
September 27, 200521 yr I would want to see the following if it is up to me... Jones resigned for around 3 million if possible for a 2 year deal. Trade Mikey and pierre together to NYY for Pavano and a prospect. Trade Mikey and Pierre to boston for some solid prospects. Resign Connie and try for Enc. OF next year RF Hermida LF Connie CF Enc 3B Cabrera SS Alex/furcal 2B Castillo 1B Delgado C LoDuca SP Willis SP Beckett SP Vargas SP Pavano SP Olsen/Johnson setup Mota Closer Jones Bullpen Villone LHP Messenger RHP Resop RHP AA RHP Rincon (Lefty) Someone else needed Bench Joe Dillon (infield utility) Matt Treanor (catcher) Harris (yes back again) Aguila (OF help) Willingham (C/utility) FA pitck up lefty bat.
September 27, 200521 yr I know we're about to enter a season of discontent where everyone and anyone will be blamed for sins real and imagined, but let's not forget that injuries played a big part in the downfall of the pen as well as everyday players. Until Mecir tore his rotator cuff he was pitching quite effectively, AA was hurt multiple times and like Mecir is injured right now, Mota and Resop ditto, the list is endless. Being injured and being asked to pitch (or for that matter play second base or another position) because the front office can't/won't find adequate replacements doesn't mean that player sucks, in fact often times is the case that the opposite is true. A Jim Mecir or a AA should be lauded for going out there when asked and giving their best when in fact they should be on the DL. The result may be unpleasant for the fans and leaves the player open to criticism but in many cases if we knew how banged up these guys were I believe most rational people here would feel differently than they do. Recently I was at a game where I watched as Encarnacion's ankle was being taped mid-inning in the dugout with about a 1/2 inch thick of athletic tape. It looked more like a cast than just support. But he went out in the bottom of the inning and played. The media seldom reports the everyday injuries that plague professional players, for obvious reasons. And of course this stuff happens on every team playing a 162 game season. If I find fault with any one person for our September swoon I would have to look to Admin Beinfest, who for reasons only known to himself and ownership did virtually nothing at the trade deadlines (Ron Villone and Paul Quantrill ??? OMG) to improve the obvious weaknesses of the team. One can blame Jack for bullpen mismanagement all you want but first you have to have a bullpen to mismanage and McKeon, from the middle of July certainly didn't have one. Where the blame lays for our failed offense remains to be determined. McKeon, Robinson (it sure seemed that Lowell and Agon and several others all strangely seemed to be mimicing the same approach at the plate this year with the same result after years of success of one type or another with there own unique batting stances and approaches at the plate), bad luck, simultaneous regression to the mean, who knows? But it can't happen again. I guess where I'm going with all this is to beseech all of us to keep the epithets regarding players to a minimum (he's a "bum", he "sucks", "garbage", etc.) as the debate warms up. And I for one, someone who has been more than happy to allow Admin B. a place on a pedestal, will certainly be more suspect of his work from now on. As long as this doesn't happen in 2006, I'm willing to forgive and forget 2005. I hope others will as well.

I guess you don't believe that Jones converting 27 saves in a row and 38 out of 42 for the season is a legitimate closer. That is one thing the Marlins don't lack, I don't think there is any team out there that has produced more closers than the Marlins...ie Harvey, Nen, Hoffman, Alfonseca, Benitez...any closer that comes to fish seems to have a breakout year
September 27, 200521 yr Dont trade Lowell and Pierre to the Yanks, they'd probably due it straight up for Pierre since they need a CF so badly...trade Mikey to the one team that seemed validly interested, the Twins. Be a good way to get bullpen help. And dont resign Enc, put Aguila in CF. Try to get pitching prospects though in both deals as well, and then use those prospects to get a LF bat. And once again NO TO FURCAL!!! He will want more money than Gonzo and this is his first good season defensively, and Delgado couldnt handle all of his errant throws...if your going to spend money on a SS give it to Gonzalez.
September 27, 200521 yr Why would the Yanks want Lowell? They've got A-Rod at 3B. It doesn't make sense unless they want him to play first base and DH Giambi.
