He did not try to correct the loss this season by lowering payroll to make the team non-competitive.

Exactly.

Instead of decreasing the payroll to A-Rods salary, he decided to add $10 Mill and make us competitive, to build-up a fan base and make us a contender, ect. He wants to get those 3,000,000 a year back, because he knows it's possible, unlike in Montreal. In Montreal, you might as well just roll over and die, because no matter how much you raise payroll and no matter if you're a contender, they still won't show.

Look, I don't know much about the economics of baseball, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that all teams were a losing money except for the Yankees and a couple of other teams.

Exactly, 15-20 million dollars is operating expenses to build for the future, every team does it and doesn't sell off their team. Why do we have to sell off ours, they will still be relatively cheap and if Loria can come up with at the least an extra $10 million of his own money (since revenue sharing will increase next season) we can easily keep our players and team intact. We get an extra $10 million in 2004 than we do for 2003 in revenue sharing (thank you Padres for moving!)

Loria puts in $10 mil and Rev. Sharing's $10 mil and we have the $20 mil needed to keep the team mostly intact.

Also, I read that even after the Diamondbacks world championship they lost a whole bunch of money that year. They were at the top as far as losing money. So winning doesn't solve everything all the time.

Well it does in Florida. The team, attendance wise, had nowhere to go but up.
