August 19, 200321 yr some possible free agent 2B that may or may not effect the $$$ situation Placido Polanco(rumor has it that Philly may not resign him) Roberto Alomar Luis Castillo Mark Grudzielanek Fernando Vina Adam Kennedy thats a solid class of 2B Castillo is the best out of that group though. Although Polanco is very good also.
August 19, 200321 yr Do we get money if we make the playoffs or only if we win the world series? What are you talking about? The only way we make money is if people come out. If we make the playoffs and nobody buys a ticket, we wouldn't make a dime. :banghead BTW: Mark Grudzielanek would be a nice, cheap addition.
August 19, 200321 yr and i wouldnt be surprised if the playoff teams make extra $ too... so down go ape on someone WC, just because you dont know

August 19, 200321 yr and i wouldnt be surprised if the playoff teams make extra $ too... so down go ape on someone WC, just because you dont know yes, I believe they do. The playoff TV money has a bigger payment to playoff teams. Remember that the visiting team gets about 30% of all game revenues in the regular and postseason.
August 19, 200321 yr Anyone who thinks Pudge is going to come back for any other reason besides money is on crack. I suppose you also beleive that Lowell would give the Fish a "hometown discount" too. Pudge is gone Luis is gone D. Lee is gone Everyone else besides Cabrera and Pierre could be gone. I really think this off-season has the potential to finally kill the Marlins off for good. Yet again the possibility of at least a %60 team turnover rears it's ugly head, and I just don't think that the SOuth Florida fan base can handle another massive exodus of talent. It's too bad. In a perverted way, the front office was too successful this year, drawing fan attention to a winning product that they cannot afford to maintain past this year. Kind of a be careful what you wish for scenario. How exactly do you know what the Ownership can and can't afford? Are you looking at Jeffery Loria's checkbook right now?? Do you have a copy of his bank statement in front of you? Maybe his tax returns?? Where did he whip out the 10 mil in "special money" for Pudge, his a$$? Loria has money. Its just whether he is WILLING to spend it. Just like Carl Polad w/ the Twins. He's one of the richest owners in the game yet he also one of the cheapest. Jeff just might be willing to dig a little deeper if the support is there.
August 19, 200321 yr I think the team that wins the World Series does make a bonus. The players get fat checks don't they? I thought it was like the Super Bowl where the winners take like 30K each and the losers take 10K or something like that.

Jeff just might be willing to dig a little deeper if the support is there. THANK YOU! Nobody here has any idea that Loria does or does not have the money. And I guarentee you he's going to whip out his checkbook or Visa to keep this team together or patch up the holes that leave with cheap TALENT. If the rotation stays in-tact, this team's limit is the sky next year. He wouldn't be consistantly rambling about how he is going to make this franchise have long-term success if he didn't have something up his sleeve to keep the core together, and build-up fan trust. I am in a way speaking for Jeffrey Loria here, and telling you that this team WILL be a contender next year, one way or another.
August 19, 200321 yr For all you know Beinfest could pull off another magic trick and keep the players long term like he did to sign them this year.
August 19, 200321 yr For all you know Beinfest could pull off another magic trick and keep the players long term like he did to sign them this year. Remember, Beinfest is the one who got Vidro so cheap. This guy knows what he's doing. Another guarentee from me: Admin Beinfest-- Executive of the Year
August 19, 200321 yr For all you know Beinfest could pull off another magic trick Like Getting Vlad.....he was suppose to come here and he can BE that righthanded power hitter we were trying to get. :lol
August 19, 200321 yr Like Getting Vlad.....he was suppose to come here and he can BE that righthanded power hitter we were trying to get. :lol I made a post about this earlier. About how we could basically sign Lowell and Vlad to big deals, and patch together something that resembles an offense to hit in front and behind them. Build the offense around Lowell and Vlad, with AWESOME pitching, and you get a playoff team. It's possible... :whistle
August 19, 200321 yr we have right handed power dude... but i wouldnt mind vlad Yea we do but remeber Beinfest wanted White or Sanders....thats what i mean.
August 19, 200321 yr The fact is though if Loria is losing money, than he's not going to invest a lot more money on the team that would just mean his losing more money.
August 19, 200321 yr The fact is though if Loria is losing money, than he's not going to invest a lot more money on the team that would just mean his losing more money. Loria is not losing money. He prefers the term absorbing operating costs because he is building this team for the future. a person who is building for the future has to put in capital now in order to help build. It is business, there will be no selloff, it defeats the purpose of him taking a loss this season and last season.
August 19, 200321 yr The fact is though if Loria is losing money, than he's not going to invest a lot more money on the team that would just mean his losing more money. He lost $20 Mill last year and up'ed the payroll $10 Mill for this year, despite being a losing team. He took a risk, one that is now paying off. He'll probably lose about $10-15 Mill this year (assuming he actually lost $20 Mill last year), except the team will be a contender, and slowly but surely getting back its fan base. Once you get a LOYAL fan base, you can just ride it out for decades. Despite being a losing team or a winning team, you'll still enjoy the sellouts every night, ala Cubs & Red Sox style.
August 19, 200321 yr he lost $20mil last year Cape Think of this like a business. He absorbed the 20 million dollar loss in order to help build the teams future. He did not try to correct the loss this season by lowering payroll to make the team non-competitive.
August 19, 200321 yr Look, I don't know much about the economics of baseball, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that all teams were losing money except for the Yankees and a couple of other teams.
