Now that the Marlins are on an awesome tear (although it's lasted 3 months), it would be a good time to try and negotiate contracts. I believe negotiations will be much better now than during the offseason. The players might be willing to sign for less money to keep the team intact now. Of course, the only player we won't be able to talk to is Pudge, but I don't think he'll be staying, according to some articles coming out of Texas. Several teams have done this in the past, and it usually works out. Just an idea.

I think Pudge will come back next year , And you never know maybe 3-4 years from now Castro is the starting catcher and Pudge is the starting 2B , I wish all the 25 players could come back next year , So far only 2 players for sure are back next year ( D-Train & Cabs )

Also Pierre is comin back next year. (signed past this season i think)

Wow. Post of the day fellas.

Pudge is most likely not back (although, the better we do the more likely it seems), Pudge will never play 2nd base, Castro won't sit on ANY bench another day after this season, and Pierre is guarenteed here next year as well.

Why wouldnt Pudge be back ? You never dont know only person that knows is him and his agent

Yea he is. Burnett is very likely to come back too.

I doubt that the Marlins will keep Burnett, unless the price is right. Somebody has to have learned from the whole Alex Fernandez disaster.

I love these threads about contracts and the future. It seems like this subject instantly removes any rational thought and replaces it with fantasy.

Pudge is not coming back, period. The fish are three-deep at C. Besides, how long do you expect to keep Castro on the pine?

Burnett coming back isn't guaranteed, either. As a matter of fact, as you look through the roister, there isn't a single player on the team other than Pierre and Cabrera that you can say positively will be back. From Lee and Lowell down to Banks and Castillo, there is a very good chance that most could be gone.

Enjoy the run we are making now, b/c the team they field next year will look NOTHING like this one.

I think as good as it would be to keep Pudge, we really shouldnt. Let him go on and get big money - in the AL. We keep Castro, he will cost us less money. We need to re-sign Lowell and Burnett. Yes, Burnett. If we have to lose Castillo or Lee, that is ok. I am willing to live with that. Castillo is going to be too expensive for us and Pierre will do the job just fine. Lee is above average, but we could better spend the money allocated to him at another position and just sign someone to hold over 1B until Stokes comes up. (See Braves with Fick - all you need is a guy who is solid with good defense).

Pudge IS coming back. He said if he didnt have a good year and we were not contenders he would leave.

We should Sign Lowell and Burnett to long term deals IMO.

Pudge will not be back. The first obvious reason is that his agent is Scott Bora$$ and he's all about $$$$$$$$$$.

Use the money you saved on signing Lowell and Burnett.

I agree with that, except for the keeping Burnett part. I just don't see Pudge staying. We can't afford him, and Scott Boras is a VERY greedy agent.

You actually believe an ballplayer's word? :lol :lol

To be a sports star you need to be two things.

1. Amazing at what you do

2. Be a good liar.

Pudge is not going to be back because he is just as obsessed as Jim Thome or Jason Giambi. He goes where the money is.

Anyone who thinks Pudge is going to come back for any other reason besides money is on crack. I suppose you also beleive that Lowell would give the Fish a "hometown discount" too.

Pudge is gone

Luis is gone

D. Lee is gone

Everyone else besides Cabrera and Pierre could be gone.

I really think this off-season has the potential to finally kill the Marlins off for good. Yet again the possibility of at least a %60 team turnover rears it's ugly head, and I just don't think that the SOuth Florida fan base can handle another massive exodus of talent.

It's too bad. In a perverted way, the front office was too successful this year, drawing fan attention to a winning product that they cannot afford to maintain past this year. Kind of a be careful what you wish for scenario.

I've come to the realization that pudge, Lee and Castillo probably won't be back. I really think the front office should really try and keep Castillo because he is one of the best overall 2nd basemen in the league. My biggest concern is that we keep this rotation together. They better do everything they can to keep them together, can you imagine the rotation we'd have once Burnett gets back?

Pudge would come back to SoFla if the money was real close and the team we were bidding against wasn't Texas. That's not going to happen, so he's gone. I bet he ends up in Texas, but maybe the Cubs will take a run at him.

Luis is gone unless the market really dries up for him. He's another that will come back if the money is close but if San Diego goes after him and opens up like they've been rumored to, we can't compete.

Lee is gone if we decide to trade him. He's not a free agent. What we do with him will depend on what we do with the other guys, including Lowell.

Everyone else besides Cabrera and Pierre could be gone.

No, anyone else could be gone, not everyone else. If we lose Pudge, Luis, Hollandsworth, and Nunez, the projected payroll of $81 million that Berardino talks about is down to about $58 million and that includes Hampton's money and Pudge's 2003 deferral. So we won't have to lose everyone. We can bring back more guys than you'd think.

Also, I think it's a pretty safe bet that Willis will be back too.

San Diego won't go after Luiy, they have themselves a nice duo up the middle already (Khalil Green will be up soon) and won't want to spend money on a 2B when they have a 2B and a backup.

I have become a big Pudge fan this season, but honestly, I don't see him coming back. He may be due for a raise, and we just won't be able to afford him. I see Castro starting finally. Lee and Castillo could be gone, but I really don't think anyone else of value will leave. Probably some reserves will go (Hollandsworth) and a starter (Pavano).

I guess the point- I don't really know who we will keep and who we will let go. Neither does anyone else- they're all educated guesses. We'll just have to wait and see.

i think most of the players geemoney said will go...

But i also think the money used for them being gone could help us extend 2-3+ top players (lowell etc...)

some possible free agent 2B that may or may not effect the $$$ situation

Placido Polanco(rumor has it that Philly may not resign him)

Roberto Alomar

Luis Castillo

Mark Grudzielanek

Fernando Vina

Adam Kennedy

thats a solid class of 2B

Kennedy would be a solid replacement for Castillo?

Also theres Urbina (not many have mentioned him in this post) a FA

I know for sure that Mike Lowell Is gonna get a mult year contract, so he is locked.

Last time I checked it is only August and contracts run out in October.

We shall see what happens when it happens. No more of these speculation threads that are based on no facts and get people worked up about something that is always subject to change.
