August 17, 200323 yr Friday night LHP Jon-Michael Nickerson another young lefty in the Marlins organization fired a 7-inning no-no against the Low-R GCL Braves as the GCL Marlins won 6-0. Nickerson struckout 7 batters in his masterpiece and he would walk one batter and hit another. The 18-year-old southpaw is tied for 2nd in the GCL in wins (5), is 5th in strikeouts (50), and is 7th in ERA (1.98). Nickerson has only allowed 35 hits in 50 innings this season. Young Mr. Nickerson is a name to keep an eye on as he moves up the Marlins' system. IN THE TOP THIS CATEGORY I guess LHP Scot Olsen must have heard about Nickerson no-no as he fired a one-hitter against Hagerstown in low single A. LHP Olsen went 6.0IN of one hit ball while walking 3 with 10K in the win. Not bad NO ALLSION GAVE UP A RUN? Yes indeed Allison yesterday gave up a run and took the loss. Allison went 4IN allowing 1 hit and 1run with no walks with 5K. ERA now 1.00 UNGS JUST ADJUSTING TO AA RHP Nic Ungs upped his record with Double-A Carolina to 2-4 after giving up 2 unearned runs and 4 hits in 7 innings in the Mudcats' 4-2 home win over Greenville. Ungs has a 3.98 ERA in 7 starts with Carolina and has walked just 6 batters in 40.2 innings. MORE ON HICKERSON NO-NO BY BA. NO-HITTER MARLINS (GULF) LHP JON-MICHAEL NICKERSON tossed the first no-hitter in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League this season and the third in franchise history as the Marlins blanked the Braves, 6-0, in the second game of a doubleheader. A 16th-round pick of the Florida Marlins in this year's draft, Nickerson rebounded from the first loss of his pro career to throw seven hitless innings with a walk, an HBP and seven strikeouts to earn his fourth win in his last five starts. After a perfect first frame, the 18-year-old Alabama native hit the first batter in the second before sitting down the next 11 hitters in order, including a three-strikeout third. Nickerson allowed a second runner to reach base with a two-out walk in fifth inning before retiring the final seven batters in order to complete the no-hitter and record his first career shutout. In total, the 6-5 southpaw allowed just two balls to be hit out of the infield, inducing 12 groundouts, including a 6-4-3 double play in the second frame. In the 50 innings over his first 11 starts, Nickerson has earned five wins, produced a 1.98 ERA, held opponents to a .197 batting average and struck out 50 batters. His no-hitter is the first in the Gulf Coast League since Francisco Butto tossed a seven-inning gem for the Phillies on August 3, 2002 and the first for the Marlins club since Ben Birk combined with two relievers to hold the Braves without a hit last June 21. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/minor...highlights.html FORMER MARLIN FARMHAND CHARLOTTE (INT) 1B ROSS GLOAD drove home the game-winning run with one out in the 18th inning to lift the Knights over the Indianapolis Indians in the first game of a doubleheade **Trivia question what player was he trade for? ***Here's another question Should the Marlins call-up Abe Nunez before Sept.1st, so could be on the playoff roster "IF" the Marlins get the WC? CF Abraham Nunez was 2-for-3 with a double, a steal, and a run scored for Albuquerque. He's hitting .337 and slugging .601.
August 17, 200323 yr Ross Gload was traded July 31st, 2001 to the Cubs for Henry Rodriguez (a bad trade, in my opinion).
August 17, 200323 yr The Gload trade was a bad one...I cringed at it when they announced it... wow you people are dumb. how can you cringe when HROD had like 16 homers by the ASB with like a .280 avg at the time? IT WAS a fine trade and Dave Dom, was just getting us insurance just in case we might make a run. Ross Gload is going to be A CAREER MINOR LEAGUER!!!!!!!! how is that a bad trade?? Gload was called up with the cubs that season and SUCKED. Still sucks!! we have stokes and had Adrian G. why are you missing gload?? man some marlins fans just hate ANY trade the marlins do just because its a trade and I guess they are traumatized from 1997 offseason. Im off to see the wizard, the wizard the wizard of ozz! I wishhhh i had a brainnnnn

August 17, 200323 yr Author ok ok guys I didn't think you guys would be attacking each other over this....What about my ? about bring up Abe Nunez before Sept 1st ?
August 17, 200323 yr Good report. Thanks. I'd bring up Abe Nunez now. We are going to need some new legs in the outfield. It's going to be a tough stretch for our starters. Who do we send down? Almanza 'til September (at least).
August 17, 200323 yr ok ok guys I didn't think you guys would be attacking each other over this....What about my ? about bring up Abe Nunez before Sept 1st ? Too much of a risk. Because if you bring him up before the first, and doesn't perform, now you're screwed because the player you sent down for him isn't playoff eligible and you have to bring Nunez. Just bring him up for September and that's it. Don't mess with a good thing.

Im off to see the wizard, the wizard the wizard of ozz!? I wishhhh i had a brainnnnn Hey Castillo/Renteria, build up some credibility like Markotsay7 has already done, then start criticizing others. thats the problem with you people.. post COUNTS are not the world. posting 3000 smiley faces and 1000 posts of LOL and another 1000 of 1-2 sentence posts makes you credible? You dont need post counts to state OBVIOUS FACTS. credibility means nothing. Content of what is posted is everything. how old are you again? because thats the same kind of question you are asking me.
August 17, 200323 yr Abe nunez. Yea he will be up. He was here last year and didnt even have as good a year as now. This is actually the first time the guy hits more than .275 in the minors! he might actually be ready. but ready for what ? He's never been a good bench guy... He needs alot of playing time. Remember Floyd and Preston when they first came up? They really sucked in part time duty.

You dont need post counts to state OBVIOUS FACTS. credibility means nothing. Content of what is posted is everything. how old are you again? because thats the same kind of question you are asking me. You know what, I'll be the first one to tell you that half my posts are basically sarcastic jokes. Same probably goes for Das and Ramp. But the other half are meaningful posts that have good points. Those are the posts that build you credibility. Post COUNTS mean nothing, this is correct. It's the substance of your posts that matter. You need to show me personally that you have as much substance and quality, not to mention intelligence, within your posts that Markotsay7 has, or else you won't get the credibility he has. TONS of people here, such as Edcanes, Shamrock, ect. have very low post counts and very substantial credibility because of what is in their few posts. You can't talk to me, Markotsay7, or anyone else on this board about credibility until you actually get some. Period.
August 17, 200323 yr whatever man. YOU have no credibility yourself. screw this board Don't leave the board because of me. Opinions will differ, but that's kinda the point. To make your arguement. Stick around.
August 17, 200323 yr doubt it.. why would he? He did. Nunez is a guarenteed call-up for the expanded rosters. But he was saying that because Abe is doing so well now, why not call him up before September so he could be eligible for the playoffs.
August 17, 200323 yr At this point, I don't see Nunez really in the picture. Next year, when Hollandsworth leaves, he will more or less "inherit" the 4th OF spot if the current outfield remains. He will definitely be up in September, but I don't think he'll be a part of any run the team should make.
August 17, 200323 yr Yeah I don't see any reason to bring up Nunez. If we called him up we'd probably send down Mordy, and he's a nice utility guy to have and has been playing great lately.
August 18, 200323 yr Author A guy who covers the South Atlantic League(low class A ball) and has watch Olsen pitch sent me this e-mail. I thought I'd share with you. "LHP Scott Olsen is the Human Torch. Olsen pitched yet another gem on Saturday, fanning 10 batters in 6 shutout innings of one-hit ball to snatch his 6th win of the season and help power Low-A Greensboro to a 2-1 win at Hagerstown. In his last 7 starts, the 19-year-old lefty has a 0.90 ERA and has permitted just 18 hits and 15 walks in 40 innings while frying 47 batters. Ridiculous. For the season, Olsen has his ERA at 2.94 and he's given up just 86 hits in 110.1 innings, recording 110 Ks. Olsen is screaming up the prospect charts." :thumbup
August 18, 200323 yr Is good the marlins still have some good lefty prospects after what we up to get Redman from Detroit.
August 18, 200323 yr whatever man. YOU have no credibility yourself. screw this board Cry me a river. Go stand in the corner and cry.
