Posted October 12, 200519 yr OFFICIALS: GIRARDI HAS BID FROM FISH By GEORGE KING -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- October 12, 2005 -- All signs point to Joe Girardi soon being named as the Marlins manager. According to industry sources, Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria has made Girardi an offer the Yankees bench coach is likely to accept. Girardi met with Loria last week in New York. The two were slated to meet again when the Yankee season ended, but in the meantime, Tampa Bay asked for permission to interview Girardi for its managerial opening and it was granted. Girardi's name also surfaced as a possible replacement with the Cubs if Dusty Baker leaves. If Joe Torre returns and Girardi replaces Jack McKeon in Miami, Torre will be working with his fourth bench coach in four seasons. New York Post
October 12, 200519 yr Nice of the Marlins FO to interview everyone before giving an offer... I'm disappointed they didn't wait. Hopefully this is mere speculation.

Hopefully this is mere speculation. if they are convinced that Girardi is the man for the job, why wait. My fav is Fredi, but Loria and Beinfest are the once knowing what's best for the team.
October 12, 200519 yr As has been clear all along, Girardi is Loria's first choice. He will get an offer. What remains to be seen is whether he will take it. IMO. Girardi is the best choice and I hope he will accept.

I suppose. But I think they're not being fair to the others by giving Girardi an offer even before interviewing them.
October 12, 200519 yr I wanted either Fredi or Joe...Joe does have experience (mlb) and is young....That's what we need---to infuse a younger person to take over after 13 years of 'older' managing. Could work.

If they think Girardi is the right choice, would you wait and run the risk that another club may get him? In addition, what is being reported by the media should be taken with a grain of salt. I'm sure the FO have performed phone interviews, contacted references and performed their due diligence.
October 12, 200519 yr Yeah, you're right. I guess I would just be slightly disappointed if Fredi doesn't get the job. :confused

October 12, 200519 yr Yeah, you're right. I guess I would just be slightly disappointed if Fredi doesn't get the job. :confused I'll be a bit dissapointed too, but I'm OK with Joe and trust Loria and Beinfest judgement to pick a manager that would fit with our current needs
October 12, 200519 yr Why Girardi? If we wanted a young, former bench coach with RECENT major league ties and virtually no managerial experience, why wouldn't we just hire Mordecai? Anyway, I'm not opposed to Girardi...I just wonder if he's the right choice. I trust the FO to make the right decision. If I had my way, we probably wouldn't have ever hired Jack either, so I think the FO knows a bit more than I do...but I am skeptical.

I liked Fredi more and he will probably come somewhat cheaper. But either way, both are great choices. Good situation to be in right now.
October 12, 200519 yr Maybe Girardi will bring the casual Yankees fans in Florida to become Marlins fans. Couldn't hurt, since I suppose there are alot and there would be some name recognition.
October 12, 200519 yr IMO. Girardi is the best choice and I hope he will accept. Why do you believe Girardi is the best choice?
October 12, 200519 yr Author Girardi rubs me the wrong way regarding his over confidence in himself, but that may not be a bad thing. However, I will say that I'm a little hesitant hiring a guy who was still an active player in '03, and has only had one year of experience as a bench coach, for an American League team. If we're picking a rookie manager, go with Gonzalez...
October 12, 200519 yr I doubt that they would offer the job to anyone without interviewing several minority candidates first. They got slammed for that once when they hired McKeon. I think the whole policy is ridiculous. I wrote about it a while back and the article can be found at my blog. http://floridafishfan.blogspot.com/2004/01...t-you-want.html

October 12, 200519 yr Give me Lou or give me death! looks like you would be dead soon. Lou hasn't been mentioned as being a target

October 12, 200519 yr Give me Lou or give me death! looks like you would be dead soon. Lou hasn't been mentioned as being a target Fresh, I think I read this morning somewhere tha the Fish had contacted his agent, who if I remember correctly is Alan Nero.

Looks like the FO is really doing their due dilligence

Yeah, I read that too, but the contact was made a while ago and there was never a call back.
