I mentioned yesterday, in response to a Lenny Harris thread, that he was doing LOUSY with the Isotopes. Thereafter a 'Topes fan blasted him on their Fan Forum. It's fun monitoring their website. Many names that many of us recognize. alburquerquebaseball.com p.s. I was among those who welcomed the acquisition of Harris. Gulp.

Well, I still think we are going to see Harris called up the 31st, just incase, to make him available for the offseason. You never know, somebody on our bench can get injured or something and we will need him. You will see him on the ML squad in september for sure, even though hes doing horrible in AAA right now...

BTW, wasn't he hitting .250 (4/20)? Thats not good, but its not horrible...if he adds a couple of hits to that, His avg will look a little better at least.

4/20 is actually .200 - 5/20 would be .250

C/R, We have better players to bring up. Harris is finished. What a shame. He was a class act. We got him too late.

I think we will still see Lenny Harris on the bench as a leader for our playoff push...But I could be wrong

nope, we got Harris for a reason. Its easy to get him to be eligible for post season play (must be called up before sept 1) and that is to just take somebody off the roster that is in the rotation that is not pitching that day. If Beckett or Willis are not pitching on Aug 31st, then they can be removed from the 25 man and remain on the 40 man while harris and another player be added on. That will make them eligible for post season play.

my bad 4/20 is .200, still a few more hits and hes got a better looking avg. 20 abs is not enough to say the guy is finished. He may still have some pinch hitting left in him.

He will be up for expanded rosters and should be up by the 31st no matter if he hits .175 in AAA. Its just bench duty and his veteranship could play a role. Remember tim raines?

You're talking clubhouse leadership for the play-off stretch. That's what I thought a month ago. What leadership comes from a guy who can't field his position anymore and can't hit anymore? He signs autographs? Get real.

You forget the Lenny harris has been on 3 playoff teams including a world series team (Mets, Reds, and the Snakes) I think that being in all situations of the playoffs would provide leadership on a team that doesn't have any playoff players on there roster right now :mischief2

I think Lenny could teach the guys in the majors a thing or two, maybe about certain pitchers we'll face along the way. But I will say this, playoff experience is overrated.

Playoff experience is overrated in baseball.

I recommend Prozac for you arnie. Seriously, you get hostile so easily. Look into Prozac.

To get back on the subject, Harris can field decently for any guy that plays just about every position. He can play 1st, 2nd, 3rd and LF. He is the career all time leader in pinch hitting arnie, this isnt just anybody.

If you think 20 abs in AAA ball is enough to say the guy is finished, youre wrong.

and I'm not talking about leadership like team cheerleader or something. I'm talking about somebody like Raines who has seen just about every pitcher and can give a crash course to a teamate that hasn't seen somebody before. A player-coach in that respect. He might not perform like an all-star, but he will make the bench better by just being around. Thats right, Andy, Mordi, Castro, Redmond and whoever is called up will improve just with Harris being around. HE is the best pinch hitter of all time.

now hurry up and get that prozac.

C/R. Cheap shot. Try focusing on the facts.

I can agree with the Raines-like "leadership."

lol and try actually reading inbetween the first and last lines.

how about 131 at-bats with the cubs with a .183 ave? does that count?

he did hit .305 with the Crew the previous year though, so i'd say counting him out would probably be a little premature, yeah.

actually i agree with you, i think he'd be a nice piece for a playoff team. if nothing else than a veteran mind & cheerleader off the bench.

Lenny Harris has been awesome this year! We should definitely bring him up!

(sarcasm)

I beg to differ on that. I'd say he's fairly horrible at pretty much any position he plays. Defensively, Mordy is better at 3rd, Fox is better at SS and 2nd, and Cabs is better in left. And they're all better hitters.

It's somebody who was never quite good enough to earn a starting job in the majors.

How about 20 ABs in AAA along with 131 ABs with the Cubs?

Don't compare Tim Raines to Lenny Harris. Besides, I'm pretty sure Mike Mordecai, Andy Fox, Todd Hollandsworth, and Mike Redmond have seen a fair amount of pitchers as well. In fact, considering that Fox, Hollandsworth, and Redmond have all been starters at some point over the past few years, it's probably safe to say they've seen more current pitchers than Harris has.

There's already enough mediocre veterans on our bench. No need to add another who can't even hit.
