August 29, 200323 yr this is the 1st time ive read this thread but this is the only post that interests me. you've never actually done that have you? :shifty i was just joshing.....or was i :shifty
August 29, 200323 yr that video for Hurt by Johnny Cash is scary. It gives me the chills everytime I watch it. When he is pouring the wine on the table, and then it shows seens of Jesus getting crucified, and he is singing "my empire of dirt...". Man, that stuff is freaky for some reason.
August 29, 200323 yr haha....no, I'm no racist....but I'd still probably get shot at if I did that. what makes you say that? im sure you would be very welcomed in a black neigborhood with one of those. :shifty im only playing around
August 29, 200323 yr well....my friends who happen to be black (mostly people on the team, but there are others as well) dont really care. I mean, they know me. I wouldn't hang around them if I was a bigot. But, black neighborhood? hmmm, I dunno. haha
August 29, 200323 yr you dont have to defend yourself man, im only joking. honestly though, what is the deal with that flag? i went to Tennessee a couple of years ago and i saw those flags everywhere and im not even black but i felt uncomfortable as hell.
August 29, 200323 yr Southern pride...well, thats what many feel. Yah, most of my family is from East Tennessee....I love it up there. It means a lot of things to a lot of people. To me, it means Southern pride...I'm proud of my heritage.
August 29, 200323 yr in fact...I believe the numbers are somewhere around 90%...90% of all Confederate soldiers did not own slaves, nor did they ever own slaves. They were mostly poor farmers. I dont know of too many people that would willingly volunteer to fight a war to defend an institution such as slavery, when they themselves, or any of their friends benefited from it. Because slavery may have helped the economy as a whole, but the poor farmers sure weren't feeling the effects.
August 29, 200323 yr Granted slavery was a major part of the South, especially for the lawmakers who also were the slaveholders largely.... but still slavery was not all the South stood for. Educate yourselves.
August 29, 200323 yr ***RANT ON*** i usually like the vmas ... i tend to hate mtv, it's preaching on what is cool and passing off their politics as the trendy thing (and only correct way of thought) to impressionable 13 year olds is sickening however, i think the vmas are usually pretty good ... some mix it up performances, some unintentional comedy, awkardness of completely different kinds of people working together .... it's entertaining last night, however, is 3 hours of my life i'll never get back .... people are making a big deal out of the kiss and opening first the whole cake and dress thing madonna did back in 84 was shocking .. it was for one, 1984 .... next she showed the crowd and audience quite a bit .... 3rd it was 1984 and this type of thing wasn't the norm that it is now to see christina and brittany with more covering gyrating less than they do in their videos was not exciting to see a forced kiss was not exciting shock for the sake of shock is lame ... when you push the envelope for the sake of just pushing it, your bound to get tired ... that opening was boring also madonna doing a whole song on hollywood ... yeah, nice and all, but the location was NYC ... even though most of the crowd resides on the west coast, i don't care .. the setting was new york and if you only perform 1 song it shouldn't be about hollywood also i can't believe that the 2 major pop princesses had the chutzpah to sing the line about radio playing songs to death and making stars ... THAT IS HOW YOU HAVE A CAREER!!!!!! chris rock is one of my favorite comedians .. his bring the pain set was one of the funniest things i've ever seen ... he had some good moments last night, but looked uncomfortable for most of it ... i also agree that he has slid in recent years most of the presenters were lame .. best part was snoop and sandler feeding off each other and actually looking like they were having a good time all told the performances were a bit bland .. no one really mixed it up ... i like coldplay, but their act paled to the one they put on at the grammys as for the modern state of rap ... i quit getting into it a long time ago ... i love groups like outkast, goodie mob (the CD with soul food on it is classic, although world party is kinda weak), KRS-One, tribe, de la, old wu-tang, old redman, black eyed peas, roots, pharcyde, early dre, snoop, some nas, etc now it just seems to be even more posturing and posing .. the puff dadiation of the industry ... people dancing with their shiny clothes, singing the same 5 lyrics about money, hos and clothes i like some nelly now, but that gets repetative .. i think eminem is talented as can be, but wastes it on some worthless songs (he teases you with some real solid ones) ... 50 is bunk, ja rule is worse .... jay z has completely slid off the map .. his best stuff was out in like 95 thankfully i can still find some rock bands i like .. a couple incorporate ryhming .. i love 311 and linkin park is good as well big fan of the reverend horton heat, supersuckers, face to face, etc good to see rock music maybe making a comeback of sorts oh well ***rant off*
August 29, 200323 yr as for the modern state of rap ... i quit getting into it a long time ago ... i love groups like outkast, goodie mob (the CD with soul food on it is classic, although world party is kinda weak), KRS-One, tribe, de la, old wu-tang, old redman, black eyed peas, roots, pharcyde, early dre, snoop, some nas, etc wow, did we grow up together?
August 29, 200323 yr Damn, Beyonce looked FINE!!!!!!! :thumbup :thumbup :thumbup :w00t :w00t :shifty :whistle :mischief2 :hat

August 30, 200323 yr Yep i have all the Eminem albums but not the 50 Cent. I dont know were to find it but its no problem. I have alll the songs he has ever made into a burnt CD. I got the songs all from kazaa. If 50 Cent was so hot then why did it take you so long to discover him? He got a major label and they pushed him, he's popular not because of his music but because his record label pushed him, that's all it is.
August 30, 200323 yr Granted slavery was a major part of the South, especially for the lawmakers who also were the slaveholders largely.... but still slavery was not all the South stood for. Educate yourselves. id like to know what the south stood for honestly, id like to know being from the south but the whole stereotype of the south kinda scares me off educate me

He got a major label and they pushed him, he's popular not because of his music but because his record label pushed him, that's all it is. It didnt ake me long to find him. I knew about him when he was underground before he even made the cd that got him popular...
August 31, 200323 yr The South stood for a region where there werent big cities. It was small towns working together. It was an egrerian (sp?) economy based on cotton, tobacco, etc. But, as for the Confederacy. The Confederacy stood for States' Rights. Why should a state be forced to stay in a country it doesn't want to be in? We (USA) broke away from Great Britain. We all think England and King George were evil for sending in troops to force us to stay as part of the kingdom. In the same sense, many Southerners feel that it was wrong for Lincoln to send troops down to Ft. Sumter to keep South Carolina in the Union. Pretty much Lincoln was a bigot. He did not care about slavery. There was a quote by him saying that he would keep slavery if it would help save the union. He would abolish slavery if it would help save the union. Lincoln sent troops down into the South to keep states from doing what they wanted to do.
August 31, 200323 yr True, Lincoln didnt care about slavery one way or the other in the South. What he wanted was to see slavery not being spread to newer territories out West, which had developed into a major problem during the previous 40 years. And its agrarian Pretty much what Furman said holds true.
