I think they were talking about today. But you're right, if he signs next Monday then we won't get any draft picks.

Picks will be coming to FLA so long as they offer him arbitration, and there's no reason not to since he's going to sign with Toronto or St. Louis anyway.

All we have to do is offer arbitration by the deadline (the 7th) and we get picks.

Signing with another team before the deadline makes it a no-brainer....of course we will offer arbitration since he cannot accept......and of course the other team will lose a first round pick. Thus the reason some teams are waiting to see who gets offered arby and who doesn't.

 

For example, if we offer Conine arby he may well accept it and then the Marlins are on the hook for next year. But another team may well offer Conine something better and we get the picks. It's a crap shoot.

Would appear that Burnett is delaying on the blue jays, think he would rather go to the cards. Makes sense, after what happened to his buddy pavs in the AL East I wouldn't want to go near it. Plus then he may have to face Beckett, and he wouldn't want to be shown up now would he?

ESPN is reporting Burnett signed with the Jays.

I was one of the posters on this site who wanted us to make the Bronson Arroyo and Anibal Sanchez for Burnett trade and I feel even worse now knowing he signed with the Blue Jays and we don't even get 2 first rounds picks for him.

Obviously we would have been better off trading AJ to the Red Sox this past season. Having Arroyo in our rotation this coming year would have been solid. D-Train, Arroyo, Vargas, Olsen/Johnson, 5th starter. Not bad.
