December 7, 200520 yr From Rotoworld: Antonio Alfonseca - R - Marlins The Marlins have discussed re-signing Antonio Alfonseca and installing him as their closer. Alfonseca didn't resemble a closer while finishing with a 4.94 ERA in 27 1/3 IP last season. He's only had one good season in the last four, and that was his year under Leo Mazzone's guidance in Atlanta. Our bullpen really has fallen from grace...
December 7, 200520 yr It's the team's necessity to have a piece from the '97 Series to always be on the roster. Since Luis was traded Niner is just about gone, bringing back Alfonseca is the only reasonable solution the problem. :hat

Jones was unbelievable last year but otherwise I felt they should have played "Send In The Clowns" whenever someone was called out of the bullpen.

December 7, 200520 yr he'll also lead the league in blown saves Like he'll have enough opportunities to do that.
December 7, 200520 yr I dont' even care. My favorite part of going to games is watching him pitch, and using my binoculars to get a close up on that 6th pitching finger. I saw it once. Too cool.
December 7, 200520 yr I believe Antonio Alfonseca will have one hell of a season! I am going for 40 saves from him ;-)....
December 7, 200520 yr I wouldn't mind him one bit! He is exciting, and comes out full of energy everytime, will actually givew us something to look forward too, especially the fist pump after a strikeout!
December 7, 200520 yr As long as we're going young why not put a guy like Resop there? It isn't like we're trying to win this year or anything. See how the kids can handle it. You never want Antonio Alfonseca to be your second highest paid player.
December 7, 200520 yr This is the year to evaluate whether or not Resop or Boywer have the stuff and mental make-up to close. Though if we had more of a shot at making a run, maybe I would be warmer to a more proven commodity in Alfonseca.
December 7, 200520 yr Nice way to bolster the confidence of these young starters.....having a guy with a near 5 ERA backing them up. :banghead
December 7, 200520 yr blah take him, it cant hurt at this point. We are only gonna get the chance to close maybe 10 games all year anyways.
December 7, 200520 yr By the time the season starts we'll have assembled 371 young pitchers. Just hold open auditions.
December 7, 200520 yr Doesnt matter who your closer is if you are not expecting to compete this should be the last priority

The bullpen in '03 was terrible too.
December 7, 200520 yr Doesn't look too likely. From today's Herald One player who almost certainly won't be back is reliever Antonio Alfonseca, who was 1-1 with a 4.94 ERA in 33 games last season. The Marlins offered the 33-year-old right-hander $500,000 and another $750,000 in incentives, which the pitcher's agent, Juan Iglesias, turned down. ''We're so far off, it won't happen,'' Iglesias said. Not sure what his agent thinks he can get for him at this point.... but whatever.
December 7, 200520 yr pitching always makes more then it is worth. So most likely he is looking at a million which means AA is going back to the braves I bet.
