Jose Fernandez dies in boating accident
I can' t remember the last time I posted on this site. I'm constantly lurking though. Yesterday's news makes me glad that this site exists so I know that I am not alone. I don't believe I've ever cried over someone I've never met. I did yesterday. It just seems such a tragedy that someone that loved life so much will not be able to experience it anymore. R.I.P. Jose. You will be missed not only for your baseball prowess but because you were a shining example of pure joy.

Marlins getting no love from national networks
Typical. Its because they still don't believe anyone will be at the stadium. The Rays get on because they have actually won, so they are forced to show them. Kind of sucks for Stanton, and once again he'll be overlooked for HR contest and as an MVP candidate. The Rays have never won the world series. Their first season with a winning record was 2008. 9 of 14 season they finished dead last in their division. The marlins have a better overall win % and have won 2 world series (the reason for playing the game). They get TV time because of the division they play in. Stanton wasn't overlooked last season so I don't see a reason why he would be this season. Especially with the Showtime reality show and the media magnet that is ozzie guillen. and they have won - didn't say what they had won. They have at least 1 division title, something the Marlins have never won, and have been in the playoffs 3 of the last 4 years I believe. They have what many contend are some of the youngest stars in the game. As for Stanton, he was overlooked because he wasn't even considered on many of the lists for MVP. How many votes did he get in the end ? I don't think he was even 3rd or 4th place, I know Kemp was 2nd. Trolling me yet again ? Why would Stanton be on any list for the MVP? He is a beast and probably will eventually win an MVP (hopefully) but last year he did not deserve any consideration for the award.

Peter Gammons called the Marlins the favorites in '09
I watched it, and I believe he didn't call us the favorites, but said there was a POSSIBILITY that Maybin could make the marlins a serious contender for a title next year. He didn't even want to sound like he was predicting anything, because god knows nobody on ESPN can say the marlins will win anything, all he said was that we have a CHANCE of becoming a contender Actually, I watched it and what I heard was that if Maybin starts in centerfield next year and with our pitching, the Marlins would be the team to beat in the East.

Meeting Yesterday
im 100% against Bonds. I am for anything that helps this team. I am getting sick and tired of seeing bases loaded or runner on third less than two out and watch a strikeout. Bonds might bring a little distraction but maybe he could bring some swagger back to this club.

Nady/Marte traded
From cnnsi.com According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, the Yankees have acquired outfielder Xavier Nady and reliever Damaso Marte from the Pirates for Jose Tabata, Ross Ohlendorf and two other minor league prospects. While the trade has been agreed upon, according to Heyman, nothing will become official until all six players have been granted medical clearance.

Nady/Marte traded
From mlb.com PITTSBURGH -- Pirates right fielder Xavier Nady and reliever Damaso Marte have been traded from the club. Though the team confirmed a trade, the Pirates have not revealed where Nady and Marte are going or whom the club is getting in return. According to the Pirates, those details will be revealed following medical evaluations of the players. Though unconfirmed, the Yankees have been speculated as being on the other side of the deal. Nady started Friday's game and was removed after one inning. Television cameras caught Marte hugging his teammates in the dugout in the second inning, apparently shortly after learning the news. Torrealba, Fuentes to Marlins??
A-Gon wuz our 1st overall pick in 2000, I didn't understand why we traded him for a guy who wuz only here for half a year, even if that meant a world series. Because it meant a World Series. No matter what way you look at it, we won a World Series. But hindsight is 20/20, that trade could of blown up in our face. Sometimes the risk is worth the reward.

Cody Ross on the all ugly team?? wtf??
I don't think that Le Batard created that list. Link to All Ugly Team Cody Ross made Comedy.com's list Cody Ross is top center fielder in Comedy.com's, All-Ugly Team. Personally I think that is a bit harsh. Sure in posed photographs where Cody is trying to force a smile, he isn't very photogenic. But in candid shots he looks fine to me. (Note: I'm not the best judge of whether a guy is good looking or not. But obviously Comedy.com think they have a handle on it.) And oh by the way, Cody is not a bazillionaire. He plays for the Marlins and makes as little as the team can get away with paying him. Then again, the league minimum may seem like a bazillion dollars to the fashion writer of the Comedy.com. It does to me. Link to article (scroll down)

Legality of Fines Based on On-Field Performance?
Gregg's problem is that he can't see. He is wearing old prescription glasses because he doesn't feel comfortable in his new glasses. I honestly don't care how comfortable he is. IF YOU CAN'T SEE YOU CAN'T THROW STRIKES! Maybe we should put a pitcher without vision problems in the closer's role.

A Few Questions
I'm new to s. fla and love baseball, the only team here are the Marlins of course, would love to be a fan but have a few questions. 1. The team is in first place, great weather and could only draw 12,000 fans to a game 2. when i watch on tv, every player coming to bat have a nickname, how could someone new know the players when all you hear is a nickname, 3. Why don't the announcers talk about the game rather than everything they do all day and what they eat, etc etc. Don't knock me down as i read some of the threads, it seems like you can't say anything negative about the team, 1. Great weather? Obviously you were not here over the weekend when it rained. 2. I don't know what station you are watching but the graphics I see show the players real name and not every player even has a nickname. 3. Again, we must be watching a different station because the announcers I hear do a damn good job calling the game. Not knocking you down, but you didn't really say anything negative about the team, just the fans and the announcers.

First arrest made under new film pirating law
Deciding not to go to the movies because they charge a lot of money is all fine and dandy but doesnt really have anything to do with pirating movies. With that said I agree that the price of movie tickets (and even worse, popcorn/soda etc) is outrageous. But it still doesnt make it right to illegally profit from new releases such as this guy did. Chances are its just posted on irc and torrents around the world for free distribution. :yourpoint I think the point is that most movies that are posted on torrent sites are done without the though of illegally profiting from it. The groups that do release the movies do not make money on it, they do it just to do it. But there are also people that will try to profit from it. Someone at my local 7-11 stands out front and sells pirated movies and music for about $5 a piece. I quit going to the movies before I quit smoking because I couldn't pause the damn thing to smoke a cigarette. Now that I have quit, I went back to the theaters recently to see a movie and WTF?!?!?!? They have commercials???? When did this happen? I spend $80 to go see a movie with the family and I have to sit through advertisements? I think I'll just download them. Now if they develop a way that I can watch newly released movies and pay for them at the same time, then I will pay for the service to watch it at my house. But until then I will continue to download them and make homemade nachos for the kids instead of paying a fortune for them at the theater.

Super Saturday Concert Questions
The concert is after the game. Fireworks come after the show. The stage is set up right behind the infield. The best seats are anywhere facing the stage, honestly. They put the stage kind of far, which kind of sucks. But I guess it's because they don't want to mess with the infield? I have a question too. I saw some pictures of the Idol contestants giving autographs. I saw the autograph table, but I thought it was for players and they give you an autograph pass like they did a couple of years ago. For these autographs, do you have to get a pass to get in line or do you just randomly get in the line? I have an answer to your question. The autographs are pre game. Down where all the festivities are. I didn't notice any passes being issued, just a long line for the Idol people, and people just walking up to the line and getting into it. I hope that answers your question. Last time they also had Shannon Briggs signing autographs. Real nice guy. And he stayed there alot longer than he was scheduled to. Got to chat a bit with him and got my pic taken next to that big fist in my face. LOL I believe this week they will have another boxer there as well. I'm not an Idol fan by any stretch of the imagination so we left before the concert and fireworks that night. But we will be staying for Cheap Trick, Kansas, and Joan Jett. We are just going to pick and choose which concerts we stay for. After all, you pay for the game, everything else is, well, free. But I would highly reccomend going very early and enjoying the pre game stuff every Saturday. I'm with Chewbacca on this one. This is a great idea. A real family oriented event. How anyone could complain about getting something for free just because they don't like the bands is beyond me. I would say to their face, get there for the National Anthem, leave after the last out, shut the heck up, and stop being such a Steinbrenner(replace name with body part of your choice). And yes. They don't want to mess up the infield. Why cant people be upset at the band quality? The marlins are making the concert and fireworks a big part of the saturday games, therefore people (including myself) are going to expect a decent band. If they didnt make such a big deal out of it, then who cares if they have Joan Jett playing after a game. Yes its great that its free, I would probably check out Kansas, but if they are going to make the bands a big part of the event then they should get better bands. These bands were huge on the 80s and early 90s. Most of the people with young kids, love music from that era. So I would say, there is good demand for these event, especially at the price. I think the bands are fine. You won't see better or more conteporary bands, because those would cost too much. Let's add to that. Name me one big name, current top 10 band that would even consider playing a concert on a make-shift stage 20 minutes after a MLB game. No guaranteed start time. No guaranteed share of the gate. Heck, make that a top 50 band. When they announced this plan I fully expected to see "state fair" quality bands performing, and that is what we are getting. I think the org should be congratulated for the quality of the bands they ARE getting. And saluted for the attempt of providing a family oriented atmosphere with innovative ideas. Furthermore, if you don't live here and/or you don't actually go to the games anyway, you have absolutely no right in being in this discussion. I doubt very much if the post game activities are broadcasted. I don't know that for sure because I am either there or driving home from there. We didn't stay for the Idols concert. We aren't into that kind of thing. I know we won't be staying for alot of the other concerts, simply because they don't interest us. But are we stomping our feet, banging our heads on the floor, and complaining about them? Nope. Because we paid for a baseball game and are overjoyed that we are able to watch a MLB caliber team that is competitive entertain us. Anything else is just icing on the cake. I've told friends that are non baseball fans about Super Saturdays and guess what they said. "What a great idea. I'll have to check a game out." First of all just because I dont live in miami anymore doesnt mean I cant say anything. I've been to over 100 games the past 5-6 years which is more than a lot of people. Living in a city is not the only criteria for being a fan. The past few seasons the boston bruins had Godsmack, Dropkick murphy's and a few other bands. I know the celtics had some other bands, I just cant think of them of the top of my head. Last april Godsmack's cd was #1 on the billboards when it came out... The point I am making is that if the marlins are going to build up the whole saturday experience, then they should have better bands. I went to the sun-sentinels website a little while ago and right across the top it says Cheap Trick playing after marlins game. But of course I cant say anything because I am not driving to the game right? There is an old saying: You can't please all of the people all of the time. I happen to like Cheap Trick and Kansas, so do a lot of other people I know. You might think that they need to get better bands but I think that the bands they have are just fine. But again, that is just my opinion.

Matt Treanor > Javy at this point in their respective careers. No way in hell. Why is Treanor still given a chance with the Marlins? One word: nepotism Who exactly is Treanor related to????
