ESPN IS DUMB

Oh and I love that Portis was given the advantage over Bush. :lol

Come on.

Show me Clinton Portis' 500 yard game and his Heisman Trophy.

And both streaks are indeed 34 games.

damn i didnt notice that sh*t, i love miami but even i wouldnt think of giving the edge to portis.

Yeah, I kinda misread he was saying Portis AND McGahee over Bush AND White, but I don't agree with that either, as seen in my edited post.

In terms of the pure 01 vs. 05 teams, I don't see how anyone can say that.

The ESPN thing kind of confuses me. Is it this years USC teams vs. those great teams or is it the last 3 years USC teams? Because I agree if it is 01 vs. 05 Miami was better.

Well their polls all say 2005 USC.

2005

Bush 187 Carries 1658 Yards 8.9 YPC 15 TD

White 177 Carries 1178 Yards 6.7 YPC 21 TD

2001

Portis 240 Carries 1304 Yards 5.4 YPC 11 TD

Gore 64 Carries 565 Yards 8.8 YPC 5 TD

McGahee 69 Carries 321 Yards 4.7 YPC 3 TD

:plain Not even close.

05 USC

I think this 3-year run by USC is the most impressive I've seen, assuming they don't blow the Rose Bowl. Especially since I think they would have smoked LSU when they split.

But this clearly isn't the best team of the run.

They claim the 2005 USC team would be able to defeat the OSU 2002 team by 20-30 pts. I could see them beating OSU (miami was the real champs that year), but still by that margin?

:plain

You keep telling yourself that buddy.

That defense and that margin dude? No F### way they beat OSU by 20-30 pts. You have to admit that. There is no way this team destroys the Woodsen Michigan team by 50. Or defeats the Alabama team that won 2 years in a row by 50. And there is no way they beat that 2001 Miami team let alone run up the score on them

You do realize that they haven't lost in 3 years right? I agree with you about the margins, but they would have beat tOSU and Miami.

You realize Miami did the same thing right?

No they didn't. They only had 1 indefeated season. Although I guess if SC loses to Tejas it will be almost the same thing. It would be a good game, but I don't see SC losing to Miami.

usc's only had one undedeated season. they lost to cal the year they split with lsu, went undefeated last year and are undefeated going into the rose bowl.

miami lost to udub in 2000, went undefeated in 01, was undefeated in 02 until losing to tosu.

in fact i believe the streaks have gone the exact same length.

Yes I know. That is why I put "Although I guess if SC loses to Tejas it will be almost the same thing".

yeah in Dorsey's 4 year college Career he only lost 2 games

The first one and the last one (blah hehe, you know love you OSU fans gotta raze you for it :) )

But yes the streak is pretty much the same if USC wins this game. Except miami has more in a row still.

I mean position by position breakdown for the teams is unbelievable to miami

Leinart vs Dorsey = Leinart

Bush +white vs Portis + McGahee = Portis (4 season 1300 each best ever for that) + McGahee (1000 every year)

Bing vs Ed Reed = Ed Reed

Dominique Byrd vs Jeremy Shockey + Kevin Winslow= Hmm Jeremy and Kevin perhaps?

Winston Justice vs Carey = about equal both are RT and drafted about the same area.

Frostee Rucker vs Johnthan Vilma = Hmmm hard one, How about Vilma DROY ?

Jarret vs Andre Johnson = Not even close Johnson

That is just a few of the skill position players. Most of the others miami blows them away like specially in the secondary. That whole secondary for Miami was number 1-2 picks and all in the NFL now. Rolle as the nickel lol

Portis and McGahee over Bush and White??

:lol :lol :lol

Look at their stats, in both college and pros they are better.

Portis is the first person in NFL history to go 4 seasons in a row with 1400+ yards. Once they get to the NFL and do that then we can talk.

I didnt include comparisons to half of the players. USC doesnt got anyone like Rolle, Jennings in the backfield,. They dont have a Vilma really or A Wilfork.

I think auburn could of beat them last year and LSU would of beat them the year before. Oklahoma had no right to play in that game when not even being the champion of their division. It wasnt that good of a team.

USC doesnt score 20 pts on that miami defense let alone beat them by 20

I am sorry but there is just tooo much talent on that defense. Too many guys that are pro bowl caliber NFL players

Pittsburgh, Florida State, and Virginia Tech all scored over 20 on them.

But I guess you're going to tell me they were better than USC.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I think that 01 Miami team could certainly win the game, but USC would score 20+. This is the best offense in the history of college football. The defense is just suspect.

You are being an unbelieveably big homer. Think before you type, and have facts to back it up. Hugg has owned you twice with stats.

I seriously hope you're joking about the Portis/McGahee thing, because that's just idiotic. You can't compare NFL stats or stats from '02 (McGahee's big year) to Bush/White in '05, because they're irrelevant to how they would have fared in 2001. You need to compare the 2001 version of Clinton Portis (who was very good) and Willis McGahee (who wasn't nearly the back he was in '02 - in fact he was 3rd team behind Portis and a frosh averaging 10 YPC in Frank Gore) against the 2005 version of Bush and White, and the comparison shouldn't even be up for discussion. Bush/White blow them away, and this comes from a huge 'Canes fan.

The same with counting Winslow and Rolle as impact players in '01 when both were merely young guys and only played on special teams. And comparting Frostee Rucker to Vilma is dumb considering one is a DE and one is a MLB.

'01 Miami had a better defense than '05 USC, USC had a better offense, but this really isn't even that great of a discussion, because USC's 2004 team was much better than this year's team.

Damn whatifsports.com for not having a college football SimMatchup.

Wouldn't prove anything, but it'd be fun.

My apologies if you think I am being a homer but the defensive talent on that team is absolutely amazing. The way that ESPN has been talking of the situation is how the players are and what they will become. They keep using the references of how michigan only had 3-4 players become anything in the NFL. In the context of that fashion and how they reviewing this it is very fair to include what Willis and Portis have become. It is very fair to include Vilma and Carey and Ed Reed, and Andre Johnson. What all of them have become as players.

If they are going to give a review of the teams and state who will win based off of that context then it isnt even close.

As for which team would win. Could USC win? Yes anyone can win on any given sunday. Would they, I would give the advantage to Miami to win the game and a 7 pts to USC for the game. Depending of course at where it is played. 14 if it is in the Orange bowl and even most likely it is at home for USC.

But, I just honestly really believe because of all of the talent sitting on those miami teams (you have to admit on both sides of the ball they are far far far more balanced then USC), that miami would win the game.

USC has a better offense over all perhaps but Miami's defense is one that could contain that speed.

did you just say sc would only score 7-14 on that miami team?

please tell me youre talking about some gambling spread because i dont understand that sh*t.

The folks at ESPN are absolutely clueless. They'll look like the earth's biggest morons if USC loses.

USC is one of the fakest, most artificially-propped college football teams to come around in quite some time. Just take a look at their schedule...

Their opponents that are still ranked today:

Oregon

Notre Dame

UCLA

Going by present-day rankings, here's how many victories each opponent has against top 25 teams:

- Oregon: zero

- UCLA: zero

- Notre Dame: only one (20-21st-ranked Michigan, which is now 7-5)

And if you want to add now-unranked has-been opponents to the mix:

- Arizona State: zero victories against ranked teams.

- Fresno State: zero

While we're at it, let's just go through their whole schedule:

- Hawaii: zero victories against ranked teams.

- Arkansas: zero

- Washington: zero

- Washington State: zero

- Stanford: zero

- Cal: zero

- Arizona (3-8): one (a 52-14 nuking of the aforementioned 17th-"ranked" UCLA)

That's right. 12 opponents and only two wins against present-day top-25 teams--one of which is against one of the 12 opponents (UCLA) and the other against now 7-5 Michigan.

Of course most people who are paid money to "analyze" sports can't grasp things like strength of schedule and sports math. They see "yards"--lots and lots of yards against the worst defenses in division IA--and dub teams the greatest ever.

Shaq-man wins

It was a good debate :)

PWNED!

I don't think I saw this mentioned, but it should be noted Miami won the fan poll with a solid 62% majority.

This USC thing is hilarious.

#6 Oregon--whose only loss was to the powerhouse Trojans and who was unceremoniously "snubbed" out of a BCS bowl bid--was favored to beat an unranked and mediocre Oklahoma team. Oregon lost...no way!

God that conference is such a pathetic piece of sh*t.

Same thing happened to Cal last year.

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

This just in: The Pac-10 sucks!

Why aren't they putting Texas on the same pedestal?

Texas is an amazing football team this year.

Why aren't they putting Texas on the same pedestal?

They don't have the two greatest football players of all time.

True.

Like a lot of peeps already said, let SC get through Texas first.
