Listen to his Cecil Collins interview that was taken a couple months back...Fantastic--one of the best I've ever heard, to be honest. Problem is that he speaks with Samson on a weekly basis, and the listeners do (did) too...I guess that makes it harder to ask questions.
February 10, 200620 yr Sounds like Hialeah is the only 1/2 serious possibility in South Florida. It would seem any talks there are in their infancy and would take quite some time to turn into any type of deal. I'm not expecting anything to happen this season to be perfectly honest.

I like Dan's show, I listen to pretty often, he usually asks interesting questions but he was pretty behind on things hence why I was dissapointed. He was like totally taken aback that any Hialeah was on the table.

February 10, 200620 yr Author I thought there was alot of information in this interview if you read between the lines, and using Arriola's comments to lead-in really framed the issue with Miami. You heard a city manager, so uncouth, so rude and still so angry that he couldn't deliver the team to his cronies, that you couldn't come away from listening without having gotten some insight into what negotiations must have been like for the Marlins organization. There was also a peek inside the Huizenga (phony) negotiations as well for those who really listened. People have to know the Huizenga rumors were nothing more than a ploy to boost WH's otherwise atrocious PR level in the market, trotted out there there so he could say "Hey, I tried to keep them here..." and noting more.

''They are prepared to cover most of the costs of a stadium through taxes that are already in place,'' Samson said. The Virginia legislature previously approved a plan in which state income taxes, state corporate taxes and sales taxes generated at a ballpark would be used to pay the stadium debt. The city earlier approved allocating tax money on meals and hotels toward a sports facility. ''The team would only have to pay a nominal rent figure,'' said Norfolk businessman Will Somerindyke Jr., who attended the meeting with an associate and five Marlins executives (owner Jeffrey Loria was not one of them). Somerindyke said he was not acting on behalf of Norfolk government, though Mayor Paul D. Fraim was aware of the meeting. Samson said the meeting was in Miami because he's involved in the team's caravan and couldn't travel out of state. One major deterrent for Norfolk is its close proximity (about 200 miles) to Washington, which lured the Expos from Montreal last year. MLB, concerned about gambling issues, is not permitting the Marlins to meet with Las Vegas officials, at least for now, industry sources said. The Marlins, who already have visited San Antonio and Portland, Ore., are expected to tour Charlotte, N.C., and possibly Northern New Jersey and Monterrey, Mexico. The Marlins, who will meet with Miami-Dade County officials next week for the first time in a month, continue to study the feasibility of potential stadium sites in Hialeah and have set up a meeting with Homestead officials for the last week of February. I haven't been able to listen to this yet but this must have been one of his good days. He has his moments. He also, at times, sounds awful and says the worst possible things at the worst moments. He didn't sound so hot when he basically called us bandwagon fans at the season ticketholders event in December. He can be extremely grating on the nerves. And yes, Arriola is a disaster of biblical proportions!

February 10, 200620 yr Dan LeBatard knows nothing about sports. In February 2003, he stated that the Marlins made a huge mistake in signing Ivan Rodriguez, saying that Kevin Millar was a much better player than Pudge......and you guys actually listen to him?
