February 24, 200620 yr I went to a special dinner & autograph session with both Marlins and Cardinals players and coaches at Roger Dean Stadium tonight. I got to meet the notorious Mr. Ram?rez along with Manager Girardi, coaches Meacham and Harkey, Olivo, Amezaga, Bostick II, Helms, S?nchez, and of course, Pokey. Oh, yeah.. Cabrera was there too. As I made my way down the autographs line I got to chew the fat with the players; they were all great fun to talk to. My exchange with Hanley, in particular, was a real treat. He had a pair of sunglasses lying on the table in front of him; so I asked him (en espa?ol, of course): "Are those your famous 'shades'?" He looked at me surprised, so I explained "You have a huge following on the internet; they call you 'Shadez' because of the glasses" He laughed: "Really!?" I proceeded to tell him to check out MarlinsBaseball.com and then he asked me if there were any hot girls on the site. I said "Sure!" :mischief (what am I gonna say? "Oh, I dunno... they never post pics..." LOL) During dinner, the GM's and Managers of both teams stood up and gave speeches, introducing their respective players and coaches. I had the chance to say hello to Cardinals coach Jos? Oquendo, who'll manage Team Puerto Rico at the WBC, and wished him luck. The food was good also. Here are a couple of pics of Girardi giving his speech. He's a pretty good speaker, by the way. Did much better than Tony LaRussa, I thought... My 2006 Marlins autographed ball. All the guys mentioned above signed, except two -- I got Girardi to sign a card, and Cabs signed another ball, which I then gave to someone as a present... EDIT: I apologize for the crappiness of the pics -- it was dark.
February 24, 200620 yr Author It was fun. My only complaint was the lines were too slow. I wanted to get in line for the RedBirds, but by the time I finished the Marlins side, the Cards players had moved on. Only ones I got to talk to were Oquendo and Tony LaRussa (hey, he alone was worth it, so what the hell).
February 24, 200620 yr I love Hanley maybe if he ever does stop by, judging by my username he'll think i'm some hot chick. :plain anyways, sounds like it was a great experience
February 24, 200620 yr Author Was this for season tix holders or open to the public? It's an annual event sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches. I got in through my job. I'm not sure if season ticket holders were also invited, though. It was a pretty good crowd.
