February 27, 200620 yr To Kill a Mockingbird I mean, the book is great but the movie is so bland. You fail.
February 27, 200620 yr The book of the Natural is so much better than the movie it's ridiculous...the ending is entirely different and it's all completely believable. You can read it in two days easily and it reads fast. Also, Reservoir Dogs and Citizen Kane deserve spots on the list, and I'm tempted to add Raiders of the lost Ark.
February 27, 200620 yr I'll do a Desert Island Discs type deal, top 10 no frills list which I will denote with a number the order falling in where it would be placed in terms of importance: Action: 5. Kill Bill Vol. 2 9. Drunken Master (alternate: I cam REALLY close to Master of the Flying Guillotine) Drama: 4. Boogie Nights 2. Magnolia 7. Goodfellas (alternate Miller's Crossing) Comedy: 3. Rushmore 1. The Big Lebowski 8. Raising Arizona (alternate: Barton Fink) Horror: 6. American Psycho 10. Texas Chainsaw Massacre I'm a whore, couldn't help doing at least a FEW alternates.
February 27, 200620 yr Cinderella Man Gangs of New York Goodfellas Glory Amistad Saving Private Ryan While not being a movie, I think people should see Band of Brothers.
February 27, 200620 yr No one's mentioned The Austin Powers triology yet. :o And how can you possibily call yourself a human being if you've never seen The Wizard of Oz?
February 27, 200620 yr Kingdom of Heaven- Though very, very, VERY historically inaccurate. But costumes are amazing! Path to War- HBO film about LBJ Traffic Alexander- fasinating human being, battles in movie are Historically inaccurate. Spartan- Val Kilmer Top Gun-Val Kilmer Transformers the movie- Coolest cartoon EVER! 1990-Present- Miami Dolphins yearbook by NFL Films. Anything NFL Films/ESPN/FSN about Dan Marino or Miami Dolphins. A Nick Saban press conference. MLB videos about 97 and 03 World Series.

February 27, 200620 yr This is a lot of movies to ask one person to see before he dies. I'm starting to feel bad for this person.
February 27, 200620 yr This is a lot of movies to ask one person to see before he dies. I'm starting to feel bad for this person. Not really...If a person watches 52 movies a year (that's only one per week), they could see thousands in just 15-20 years.

That along with over occasions in the movie (knocking the cover off the ball and the clock) are exaggerations that symbolize how the stories of early baseball legends are exaggerated. Ex: Honus Wagner throwing rocks along with the ball to first, Babe Ruth hitting balls 700 feet.
February 27, 200620 yr I'm thinking of cutting the list down to 100 you have to absolutely see to be a human being, but I do agree with Lefty. It's not hard to watch a lot of movies. A couple more I thought of today: Ferris Bueller's Day Off - everyone needs to know what the deal behind "Bueller.....Bueller....." is Jaws - We're going to need a bigger boat The Lion King, Aladdin, and at least three more Disney movies

February 28, 200620 yr But since you're watching it before you turn 7, you're watching it before you die regardless of when that may be, aren't you?
February 28, 200620 yr In no particular order... Bull Durham Patton Armagedeon 61* The Great Gatsby (the one with Robert Redford :mischief ) Field of Dreams Baseball by Ken Burns Star Wars Episodes III, V, VI 2001 Toy Story I :mischief Poseidon The Natural Space Cowboys The Butterfly Effect The Italian Job Ocean's 11 (12 sucks big penis) Mission Impossible More later...

No, see, Bernard Malamud attempted to make Roy Hobbs a combination of Babe Ruth (coming from an orphanage, uplifting the sick with his heroics), Eddie Watkins (inexplicably shot) and Shoeless Joe Jackson (influenced by a gambler, using one bat for his career). The book's ending completes the shoeless Joe reference clearly. Also, if you pick up on the use of color in the movie, you'll see the clever juxtaposition of the white wonderboy to shoeless Joe's infamous 'black betty.' The exaggerations were a hollywood effect that perverted Malamud's intentions when he originally wrote the Natural.

The exaggerations in the movie were symbolism, this came from the mouth of the director himself. :thumbup

February 28, 200620 yr Alot of the movies you guys posted are garbage. I'd gladly die before seeing many of them. I mean, are you guys listing every movie you've seen, or you truly believe people must watch 'Euro Trip' or 'Aladdin'? Gotta agree with Zulu though, great flick. I'll list a few that aren't so popular but are great (IMO). Harold and Maude Henry Fool ---> saw this one on TV once, been trying to find it online ever since, it's hilarious. I might order it online somewhere it's just too good. Underground (Slavic flick) Jesus Christ Superstar (musical) More known but also worth it: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles 12 Monkeys That's it for now. Ah, Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas of course. (watch this only after reading the book)
February 28, 200620 yr Heh, I'd agree with Sandroimbuto on some accounts. But, in matters of taste it's hard to make everyone happy. Perhaps there's a way to actively vote in movies. Like, take a category like action flicks, put ten in and see which ones win. But, I guess it's Juanky's thread, he can do what he wants. Big Trouble in Little China and Gremlins are the sh*t to me. So's Little Shop of Horrors.
February 28, 200620 yr We really need to narrow the list down to ESSENTIAL movies - not just good or even GREAT movies. Here's how you fared in the Yankeefan Clutch Movie list: Office Space The Godfather Trilogy The Indiana Jones Trilogy The Natural Halloween (original) Shawshank Redemption Fight Club Ferris Bueller's Day Off Jaws I'll give you 9 Points. Outstanding list of essential movies. Forrest Gump Psycho 2 Points. Top Gun Saving Private Ryan 2 Points. Full Metal Jacket Saving Private Ryan Black Hawk Down The Silence Of The Lambs Reservoir Dogs Pulp Fiction Clerks Animal House Stripes 9 Points. Nice job. The Princess Bride How did it take THIS long to see Princess Bride listed? Freaking Classic! 1 Point. It's A Wonderful Life The Godfather Pulp Fiction Another one - how did It's a Wonderful Life slip so far? 3 Points. The Usual Suspects Usual Suspects is another one that slipped way too far. You earn 1 point my friend. A Christmas Story STAR WARS WEIRD SCIENCE BREAKFAST CLUB PULP FICTION TERMINATOR PREDATOR This was an awesome list of movies. A Christmas Story has to be a top 10 must see! 7 Points. I'll have to see some more ideas before I post something more authoritative.
