Jorg's Journal - March 18, 2006

Featured Replies

been a few days. hope everyone hasn't missed me too much. i actually just woke up and am about to head to the field here shortly. even though we have a later arrival time (10:15 as opposed to the ususal 9:30) i'm still going to go in and get a warm-up workout in. plus i get bored being around the house sometimes.

long trip over to the west coast yesterday, but at least we came from behind with a tie. JJ looked strong at first, but began to tire later. as the numbers showed, he started leaving the ball up and got hit around a little bit. of course had there not been one error in the 2nd, hopefully only one of those runs would have scored. he left the ball up to youkilis and he smashed it into the monster behind the centerfield wall for a 3 run dinger. stokes was back in the lineup as DH after resting his groin for a few days. my roomie (aguila) went deep. i missed it though because i was down in the bullpen warming up herges. wish i could have seen it because he was hitting some massive bombs during batting practice. after a somewhat slow and frustrating start for him, his bat is starting to come around. tank looked impressive on the mound. i'm sure he was pretty stoked that he struck out manny ramirez too. i know i would be.

big game against the yankees today at the park. definitely going to be a sellout crowd.

hope everyone had a good st. patties day. i know i was too tired to go out and have at least 1 green beer last night. 3 hour bus ride, game, and 3 hours back seem to take a toll on you.

more cuts to come today i'm sure since yesterday was friday (payday). that's usually the day that they send people down.

Good to hear from you again Jorg, am looking forward to the game today, first televised game of the year. Pretty dull question, but how do you find the day to day grind of catching, do you feel the wear and tear a lot, and does it tire you down the stretch? Cheers.

Thanks for the Journal Jorg. I didn't know Aguila was your roomie :headscratch . I hope you had a great St. Patties Day!

Hope to see ya Tuesday.

Jorg, You mentioned pay day is Friday. I suppose that is every Friday? Is there a change in pay for guys who are sent down? Just curious.

Jorg! I was about to publicly defame you for your lengthy absence from the message board! :mischief

Serious question--Inevitably, baseball ends for the majority of players (those who don't go on to coach, broadcast, etc). What is next for Ryan Jorgensen? Or is it too early to even know?

I'll answer that for him... He will be a spokesman for ShadezNation©

I have two questions for you...

What do you enjoy most about being a baseball player?

Do people often recognize you when you go out? Like... Oh that is Ryan Jorgensen.

Hey Jorg,

Got somewhat of a random and dumb question for you. How are ball players paid? I mean does the team insist on a direct-deposit to an account or do they pay with a check every other week. Sorry if this is just a laugher of a question but I have always wondered. I can imagine Alex Rodriquez opening up an envelope and seeing a check for a bazillion dollars inside! Thanks again for answering everyones questions, including my dopey ones.

Not a bad question. Most employers insist on a direct deposit. There's too much time and effort (read: money) cutting checks. MLB's an established industry and may hold on a few more protocols.

Jorg,

Do players in the minor league camp have a separate clubhouse? Or is everyone mixed together?

of course you feel the wear and tear, especially if you're an everyday catcher. i'm not sure how the posada's and schneider's manager to do it and still put up great numbers at the plate. it'll really start to wear you out once the summer heat really kicks in

yup during spring training every friday is payday. and yes, there's a change.

too early to think about really.

1. it's fun. get paid to play a game you played when you were a child. always a change in the game. yeah it's groundhog day during the season (same routine daily), but it's never the same game twice.

2. not yet they don't :D but they soon will. watch out !!

Jorg

Do chicks really dig the long ball?

you bet they do

Jorg,

they are in the same building, but they aren't in the same clubhouse. there is a separate one for that. when you get moved down of course you switch locker rooms.

the jupiter hammerheads also use the big league locker room (has about 70 lockers, even though they use 25 / 30, so they'll be spread out) during the season and the gulf coast / rehab uses the other locker room.

Don't know if this has been asked...

How did you and Admin come about you doing this whole journal thing? How'd you two come accross each other, who approached who about doing something like this, ect. Pretty awesome that a player would come on here and talk to the fans.

Jorg! Do you follow college basketball? Did you fill out brackets??

He answered that in an earlier journal and I believe it was yes.

Jorg, who, in Spring training thus far, has been your favorite pitcher to catch?

Naa, he didn't answer anything about filling out brackets. Just an LSU question.

Jorgy had a very unusual baseball history. Played, caught, for San Jacinto JC and went to the JC world series (twice I believe), Played for a summer college age team in Kansas and went to the World Series (again twice I believe), and caught for LSU and went to the World Series. He was part of the winning team in three different world series, I believe.

Kingwood High School is in the playoffs again this year.

he answered that one already too.. he said whoever is throwing strikes

Does Mr. Vargas know he has a small fan club? :mischief

Hey Jorg, hope all is well. I know catcher is a very physically demanding position. Do you take any pain relievers? If so, what do you take? I ask because I'm a very tall guy and have frequent back/neck and joint pain - just want to know what the pros do to cope. Thanks a lot man - good luck in the remainder of ST.

When you play in a game like yesterday's, does the thought ever occur to you, or does anyone talk about the fact, that you're on national TV?

How big of a thrill is this for your parents?
