I am starting to miss Beckett. :(

BOSTON -- For the first time in his career, Josh Beckett has won his first three starts of the season. And the timing couldn't be better for the Red Sox.

The fired-up fireballer worked his way out of a key one-out jam in the sixth inning with a pair of strikeouts, while Alex Gonzalez's flare to shallow left-center scored Jason Varitek with the go-ahead run as the Red Sox edged the Mariners, 3-2, at Fenway Park on Sunday.

Beckett (3-0) joined teammate Curt Schilling as American League starters with three wins in their first three starts in 2006. Beckett held Seattle to six hits and two runs -- one earned -- over seven innings, striking out five and walking one.

The biggest moment for Beckett came after Raul Ibanez tripled with one out in the sixth. The Sox right-hander struck out Richie Sexson on a curveball and fanned Adrian Beltre on a pitched the hit 98 mph on the center-field scoreboard radar gun. Jarrod Washburn (1-2) was the tough-luck loser. He allowed just three hits and three runs -- two earned -- in six innings. The Seattle lefty, however, had spotty command, walking four while striking out five. He also hit a batter and threw two wild pitches.
