i dont know the exact number of years but soon, spanish speaking people will account for nearly 50% of the population, so maybe its time for you to learn spanish...or you can just do the American thing: scream louder, and point, and show them the almighty dollar and maybe they'll understand. oh wait the Almighty dollar isn't so almighty any more is it....... :thumbup

however, i think it's a bad idea when people immigrate to this country and don't learn the language. i am an immigrant from latin america and it amazes me that there are people that come to this country and never learn the language. i am not saying you have to speak english all the time, but damn, learn the language. it will be a good thing for you. you know? i speak spanish almost exclusively when i am in miami (unless i am at work... and even then i speak a lot of spanish), but i speak perfect english, too. it's better being bilingual than only speaking spanish.

About 20 years in many parts of Miami thats how it was. My brother went to Stirrup Elementary for 1st and 2nd grade and they only taught in Spanish.

THe prediction is that by 2025, 25% of the US will be Spanish.

 

So Accord has about 20 years to get his sh*t straight and flee the country.

The other day I was at a gas station in Port St Lucie visiting my parents. The guy infront of me doesnt speak english. He tells the attendant that he wanted $20 on pump 6 in spanish. The attendant very rudely said "We dont speak that here" but when I say rudely it was rude as hell. Such attitude. I was behind him and expalined to the attendant what he asked for. The guy turns around and said thank you in his broken english a few times. People are such jerks. Instead of trying to work with the guy, who is a paying customer, she wants to belittle him and treat him like a second rate citizen.

most people seem to realize that when this was said the us was at a different point in its evolution and things were different than how they are now. but you can't admit that. how insecure can you be? back then you wouldnt expect officals to speak anything but english and now our prez gives conferences in spanish. let alone the fact there are multiracial w.h. officials now. get out of the past things have changed so quit whining and showing the intelligence of a 2 year old.

Most of the Western Hemisphere is spanish speaking. Tolerence is a great thing.

you put yourself in the crosshairs when you said he had it right. you basically said thats how things should be, no other languages should be spoken and only one flag should ever be waved here.

 

thats how things were and yeah ill agree that people should learn english and show loyalty to this country but no one has the right to tell people to ignore the language they grew up speaking or ignore where they or their family is from.

I do not see Mexico as a thread to us, however i'm sure the BP agents being shot at by Mexican soldiers on a regular basis would beg to differ.

 

I realize you were just kidding with the second part of your post, however I believe 2 years of military service should be required for every single American citizen, let them pick the branch and have any job they want if they can qualify for it, but no matter what military service should be required. The country as a whole would be a lot more educated too, considering damn near every citizen would then have the GI Bill.

 

I have an incredible amount of respect for those immigrants who came to this country legally, obtained their green cards, and then joined a branch of the military. Several immigrants who joined the military have died in Iraq and were posthumously given US citizenship, these are true American heroes and should not be confused with the border hoppers who come here illegally and try and suck the government dry. Of the 17 poolees at my recruiting station, there are two immigrants, one who just came to this country from Australia and another from the Dominican, I have an incredible amount of respect for both of them, they left their homes and came to this country for the sole purpose of becoming a US Marine, that says a lot about their character.

You do realize the reason our military is the best in the world is because it's full of volunteers. People that want to fight/fly/captain ships. If we have a conscript military, we'll have tons of people that will resent the military and desert and if they desert, that screws over everybody else.

 

Don't even make the argument about Israel's army being great with conscripts. They have a direct threat all around them that attacks them on a constant basis and don't recognize their sovereignty. That isn't the case in America, therefore it just won't work.
