Wandy Rodriguez to go commando

Featured Replies

Bothered by a bruised left groin, Astros lefthander Wandy Rodriguez expects to go without a protective cup tonight when he starts against the Los Angeles Dodgers in his quest to remain undefeated this season. Rodriguez has been plagued by a tender left groin in his last two outings. He attributes the bruising in the area to his cup digging into his left side.

Rodriguez (3-0, 2.52 ERA) says he has made some improvement through stretching exercises under the guidance of Astros athletic trainers Dave Labossiere and Rex Jones.

"I'm fine," he said. "I'm ready to start. They were stretching the muscle, and I feel fine. I possibly won't use the cup so I can see if it will help me get better. I'm not worried about not using a cup because I have real good hands."

Sexy.

Why are they announcing this to the world?

Why does a 'cup' still get you squeamish?

Free swinging D.Lee often didn't wear one. Am I the only one who noticed that?

Years ago I was at a spring training game between the Marlins and the Mets sitting near 1st base. When Piazza made it to 1st I turned to my friend and said "he's wearing a different cup." She laughed at me. About 2 weeks later the NY Post reported that Mike Piazza was using a new cup that was more comfortable for him. I never lose sight of the game. Women are just really good multi-taskers!

I think most straight women do whether they admit it or not! It's just that, unlike a lot of men, we know how to be discreet. ;)

this is not smart. not having a cup has to got to give you a nagging fear on the mound, which could result in some reflexive problems with mechanics. plus (i assume) he's always thrown with a cup so changing something like this could also throw your mechanics off just enough to make a difference at a major-league level. bad idea wandy.
