Sci-Fi Genre

Featured Replies

Alright, here's how this thing works. Later on in this post you will see the name of the movies nominated in this specific genre. They are presented in order by how many nominations they received, and then subsequently in order alphabetically when tied with the same number of votes. The number of nominations appears in parenthesis next to the movie title (with those not having a number receiving one nomination). Number of nominations was only the number of mentions the movie received in this specific genre.

Now, with that out of the way, here's the process. Simply look at the movie list and post your own list from the list of movies on the nomination list that you believe everyone, no matter what, must see. Feel free to poke fun, argue with, or ask for explanations from other users who may post lists. The point is to draw a general consensus on which movies should be viewed by everyone. If I see a movie that's getting a lot of issue over with more than one poster on each side of the debate, I'll post up a poll and have everyone speak specifically in that topic about that movie. Now, with all that out of the way, here's the list:

Wow.

Not one Matrix, but all three!? Crazy.

I like the series, though, so I can't hate too much.

Well, I think that the entire series goes together if you pay attention right. Can't have only a third of the story.

Wow.

Yeah...

I just think I didn't like the third one for some reason. All good.

I saw Dark City in theatres, didn't like it.

I just noticed...Dark City isn't on the list. What happened?

It was voted as a Suspense/Thriller

I saw Dark City in theatres, didn't like it.I actually really enjoyed the third one. I thought the seige on Zion was really cool, and the unraveling of the storyline I thought was played nicely. It wasn't as action packed as the first two but it was a very good conclusion in my opinion.

Yeah, I guess I like the action sequences in the "real" world better. I didn't dig the ships/robot war as much, I felt like I was watching a Star Trek/Star Wars combo.

Well, I loved Star Trek growing up and thought Star Wars was cool so maybe that played into it. I always preferred big war-like battles to personal fights though, cooler in my book.

My biggest knock on the Matrix series was that they left the ending somewhat open, and there wasn't a real conclusion in my view.

Nobody I know ever talks about those movies anymore, it's like they never happened.

Meh, I disagree.

Like anything, there are people that are hardcore into (too into it), there are the middle ground peeps (of which probably Juanky and myself are members) and there are people who couldn't care less/forgot about it.

If the first Matrix isn't in my list, add it.

I have seen:

Star Wars IV: A New Hope

Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back

2001: A Space Odyssey

E.T.

Independence Day

Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Minority Report

Serenity

Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith

Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi

The Day The Earth Stood Still

The Matrix

A Clockwork Orange

AI

Back to the Future

Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey

Blade

Blade Runner

Contact

Gattaca

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

Lord of the Rings: Two Towers

Planet of the Apes 1 (original)

Predator

Robocop

Star Trek VIII: First Contact

Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace

Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones

Terminator

Terminator 2

The Abyss

The Matrix: Reloaded

The Matrix: Revolutions

War of the Worlds (remake)

Damn...I guess that makes me a nerd. I've seen a lot of those. In spite of all that, this really isn't my favorite genre. Here are my must sees:

Blade Runner

The First Star Wars Trilogy

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

2001: A Space Odyssey

E.T.

The Matrix

Back to the Future

Gattaca

Planet of the Apes

I'll stop there. I listed two trilogies. I personally don't think the third Star Wars movie on its own deserves must-see status...but if you have to see the first two, then basically you have to see the third, so I just lumped them together. Same goes for Lord of the Rings...I loved the second one...that's really my only stand alone must see...but the first one was awesome too...and you can't really see the second without the first...and once you've watched the first two, you have to watch the end...so, yeah.

Gattaca was the one I was most iffy about, but it just makes it. My being iffy about it has nothing to do with how much I like it (which is to say I like it a lot) but more about how much other people like it. But, seriously, screw everyone else. They're all morons anyway.

.....

My must sees:

Blade Runner

Star Wars Original Trilogy

Minority Report

Lord of the Rings Trilogy

Back to the Future

Gattaca

2001

A.I.

Star Trek - The Wrath of Khan

Matrix

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

The Terminator

I just noticed...Dark City isn't on the list. What happened?

It was voted as a Suspense/ThrillerWow, that's BS.

Oh well.Wish I could put Dark City here too penguino. You wonder how Dark City got voted Suspense/Thriller yet Gattaca is Sci-Fi...

Oh wells.

As for The Matrix movies, I think the first one was terrific in part because no one expected it. The 2nd was basically just more of the same so wasn't appreciated as much, & the 3rd basically upped the action but I just couldn't get into it for whatever reason. It's like we'd already seen it. & I don't think they pulled off Zion very well at all.

.....

I would bet it has something to do with the fact that not as many people have seen Dark City so they just guessed...since you had to vote on all of them.

Empire strikes back

New Hope

Return of the Jedi

Blade Runner

the Matrix ~original only~

Serenity

All the Lord of the Rings

Pitch Black Not on list.

those would be my own main lists there are others but I doubt others would vote for them.

.....

Star Wars IV: A New Hope

Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back

E.T.

Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

Lord of the Rings: Two Towers

Minority Report

Serenity

The Matrix

A Clockwork Orange

Back to the Future

Contact

Dune

Gattaca

Predator

Terminator

Terminator 2

.....

Feel free to throw them out there, maybe you gain some support and don't know it
