Looks interesting so far. Lets see how this reboot of the Bond franchise pans out..

That's weird, MGM is not producing it? I'm going to miss the lion roaring right before the theme music begins at the start of the film.

The first minute, in black and white, look awesome. After that it looks like another Brosnan Bond movie and I'm sure only shares cosmetics with the actual book (Fleming actually wrote Casino Royale first).

 

Director's who are picked to do Bond don't "get" Bond. All the great Bond movies are suspense thrillers with action scenes. Once you start focusing on the action and gadets and STOP focusing on the plot, you're done.

 

I'll see it, but, like I said earlier, it looks like another Brosnan Bond with a different guy playing Bond. I just want better plots and more suspense and less fighting and gadgets. Bond isn't a freaking mercenary; he's the ultimate, cool under pressure, trying to get laid, witty, spy.

Martin Campbell is directing this one and I really liked Golden Eye so I really have high expectations for this movie.

Yeah, Goldeneye was the last good one that I can remember. It was still an action flick with Bond, but the setting and everything else about it screamed Bond, so I didn't have the problem with it.

 

I just don't like the "Monkey Man" they show in the previews. If that's the freak for this one, I can do nothing but shake my head.

The trailer didn't look all that special. Not sure why they'd have the Evil Queen of Numbers as M if this is supposed to be a prequel.

 

Oh well, hopefully it's at least at Goldeneye's level, though I'm not expecting much.

It was announced today by producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. and Sony Pictures Entertainment, that Chris Cornell, the singer/songwriter behind Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog, has written, in collaboration with Bond composer David Arnold, and will perform the main title song entitled "You Know My Name," for the new James Bond adventure Casino Royale.

 

Daniel Craig stars as the new "007" in Casino Royale directed by Martin Campbell. The film will be released worldwide by Columbia Pictures on November 17, 2006.

 

The acclaimed singer-songwriter, whose upcoming release with Audioslave marks the 11th album of his career, has also enjoyed success with the groups Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog, as well as his own critically acclaimed solo album in 1999, "Euphoria Morning." In addition, he has collaborated with such groups as Alice in Chains and made contributions to other soundtracks.

 

"I've always loved Chris' work, both as a writer and as an artist, and had hoped someday to find the right film to inspire him," said Lia Vollack, President, Worldwide Music for Columbia Pictures. "His music is both soulful and tough. It was the perfect complement to Daniel Craig and 'Casino Royale'."

 

Cornell joins such distinguished performers as Madonna, Sheryl Crow, Paul McCartney & Wings, Carly Simon, Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Tina Turner, Gladys Knight, Sheena Easton, Duran Duran and Garbage who have performed title songs for previous James Bond adventures, though he will be among the select few who have both written and performed an "007" title song (others include McCartney & Wings, Crow and Madonna). Other songs were written by composers as varied as Anthony Newley & Leslie Bricusse, Lionel Bart, John Barry, Bono & The Edge and Marvin Hamlisch.

Very interesting choice indeed. Its going to be a nice change of pace from what Tina, Sheryl, Garbage and Madonna brought to the table during the four Brosnan-Bond movies.

Also, suprisingly to me at least, the budget for the film is only 72 million.

Yeah, that budget tells me this isn't going to be faithful to the story and it's going to be another mindless action flick (potentially).

 

Other Bond news: It's being reported that Notting Hill director backed out of directing the 22nd Bond to follow Casino Royale stating "creative differences." Supposedly, they were hoping to hire this guy to bring British sensibilities to the movie and he wanted to go back to the Connery style spy movie while the studio wants non-stop action. Frankly, I don't blame him.

 

This series might be dead in the water if they don't find a way to improve it and to seperate the gap between a Bond flick and every other action movie out there.

Daniel Craig is 38. I tend to agree...But I'm not sure if there are any 30 year old brits that could fulfill the role.

Naa, I'm not talking about acting ability...I'm referring to the Bond image. Bond isn't a 20-something year old secret agent. He's meant to be matured, veteran, 'around the block' if you know what I mean.

You are aware there's a whole SLEW of actors from Britain or the "Bond" mold whose name you don't know, right? There's probably about ten guys in the Royal Shakespeare Company (the same one Patrick Stewart, Judi Dench, Timothy Dalton, Paul Bettany, Tim Curry, Ralph Fiennes, Ian McKellan and Brian Bedford came from) and just because you've never heard of them doesn't mean they're incapable.

 

I mean, honestly, 007 movies, at this point, should be able to sell themselves without having to worry about the leading guy anyways (Connery was a nobody when he started).

 

Personally, irregardless of age I'd have liked to have seen Ralph Fiennes do Bond. Older, wiser, classier. The direction Bond movies should go, with more of a plot. Rather than more action, more freakish bad guys with badass first in charges and more gadgets.

I never implied that there aren't actors capable of portraying James Bond. I was merely discussing the fact that Bond isn't meant to be played by a 'young' actor. My point is that Daniel Craig, at 38 yrs old, is probably just the right age to start a Bond trilogy (or four or five). Connery, Brosnan were both in their late 30s, early 40s (if memory serves).

 

In all honesty, I think British actors are actually BETTER than American actors. I'm well aware of all the 'royal' societies and companies and what not. Just expressing my thoughts about the 'age' of Bond.

Shot over six months at a half dozen locations around the globe, Casino Royale is finally becoming part of the official James Bond series canon and new 007 Daniel Craig and the crew talk about the pressures and makeover in store for the world's most famous secret agent in the latest Entertainment Weekly.

 

"We're going back to the character Ian Fleming originally conceived. It's not a period piece or anything like that. It's set today, right now, and it's got all the action fans have come to expect from the movies. But we're getting back to the essence of Bond, to the Bond in Fleming's first 007 novel" says producer Barbara Broccoli.

 

Why take the risk now with the franchise? "After the last film, we spent eight months trying to come up with a story, but just couldn't. The movies had become so fantastical--with invisible cars and stuff like that--there was just no way to continue in that same vein. There was nothing new left to do. So we decided to start all over with the story we've always wanted to tell--how Bond became Bond in the first place" says Broccoli.

 

Craig spoke pretty candidly about the online feedback he's been hearing since being cast as Bond, and the hesitation he has about taking on the role - "If I went onto the Internet and started looking at what some people were saying about me--which, sadly, I have done--it would drive me insane. They hate me. They don't think I'm right for the role. It's as simple as that. They're passionate about it, which I understand, but I do wish they'd reserve judgment.

 

Co-star Eva Green added "They're upset about the color of his hair--the fact that he's blond. Really, people can be such morons". "Layer Cake" director Matthew Vaughn says "I actually think all that bad press will be good for Daniel. This way, people can be surprised by how great he'll be in the role. He can just blow everyone away with his performance. Which he will do".

The problem is the "it's got all the action fans have come to expect from the movies," because Ian Fleming's Casino Royale is a series of elaborate hold-ups, gambles and is mostly dialogue driven.

 

The thing is, if the story is good enough, people won't care. The original Bond flicks were more Ocean's 11 than Die Hard. You get a good villain, a good plot, and put Bond in a situation to interact with those elements. It's not brain science.

 

I'm thinking back to Goldfinger (probably the best overall movie in the series) and the only two action sequences I can name is the one that begins the film, where Bond lays some explosives and then goes and sleeps with a girl and the last one where he and Goldfinger's second in command fight to stop the nuclear device from going off in Fort Knox. In between that it's primarily set-up and one of the best golf scenes (where Bond cheats to beat Goldfinger) in a movie. It wasn't until late Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton that the series became more action oriented and I think Goldfinger, Living Daylights, License to Kill (kinda') and On Her Majesty's Secret Service are the only ones to successfully pull the action oriented movies off. I'm not saying no action, but there should be a balance.

Sounds like they took a page out of Nolan's book of 'back to basics'.

Well... i just got back from the 12:00 showing of Casino Royale.

 

All i can say is WOW.

 

One of the best movies i've ever seen, let alone Bond movies.

 

It had everything you would expect in a bond movie and more.

 

the chicks, there were only two... and they weren't the most gorgeous things but my god do they grow on you.

 

so...

 

go see the freaking movie it was amazing.
