Faith always wins

A man shouting that God would keep him safe was mauled to death by a lioness in Kiev zoo after he crept into the animal's enclosure, a zoo official said on Monday.

"The man shouted 'God will save me, if he exists', lowered himself by a rope into the enclosure, took his shoes off and went up to the lions," the official said.

"A lioness went straight for him, knocked him down and severed his carotid artery."

The incident, Sunday evening when the zoo was packed with visitors, was the first of its kind at the attraction. Lions and tigers are kept in an "animal island" protected by thick concrete blocks.

Tell that to Saints fans. The Saints motto last year was "Faith" and they ended up being really really bad....

As for the idiot in the story... There's a saying "God helps those who help themselves". Aka, if you're dumb enough to put yourself in a situation to get hurt/killed, God is going to let it happen. God is a darwinist ;)

couldnt he have picked a safer way to findout if God exists? like God wont let me get a ticket in a speed trap?

Idiot... you can't test God, the whole idea of faith is that you do not need to test God.

Maybe he was an atheist proving a point?

Maybe he was an atheist proving a point?

What point would that be? People who believe in God in any of the major religions know you can't call God out even to prove the existence of God.

But I bet if you went up to ~50% (at least) of Christians/Catholics, they wouldn't know you can't test God. And of those who do know, plenty will think it's just a built in self-defense method for the questioning of God's existence anyways.

God fails his own tests anyways. Or at least the test of characteristics we, as humans, attribute to God.

He's not even all-good.

Huh?

"Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God" (Matt. 4:1-11)

Three logical tenants of God:

1. all knowing

2. all powerful

3. all benevolent (or loving)

However, the problem of evil cancels out the third. because there is no explanation for there being evil in any of God's creations. It'd be analogous to a good clock maker making a bad clock, it just doesn't happen. How can a good God create/sit by and do nothing while there's evil.

One of philosophy's oldest problems.

Debunked below:

1 - God created man with free will.

2 - God did not create man to be infallable. If He had, there wouldn't be much of a point for God being the definition of good.

3 - Mankind is the steward of the Earth, hence, Earth and humanity is subject to evil that humanity subjects upon itself.

4 - Earth and Heaven are seperate for a reason. For you to demand Heaven on Earth as a condition for the existence of God is unreasonable to the core by definition.

Your view of God is different then the Jewish version. God is all knowing and all powerful but he is not benevolent in the Jewish religion.

Therefore your viewpoint is only valid from that version of God.

I'll answer later. Definitely going to be a heated debate. Especially if God isn't benevolent and it just some drunken a**hole who created everything then there's no reason to worship him. At all.

Free will only goes so far. But, I'll be back later to answer. Probably two days. Got some heavy finals and graduation so I'm busy as a mofo.

Billy Joel fits perfectly for the situation I think there :)

1 - God created man with free will. But if he is omniscient, how does that mesh with giving man free will? He grants man free will but already knows what choices they'll make? It's like sitting back & watching a story unfold that you already know the answer to. An eternal god (who presumably would exist outside of our normal concept of time) who knows past, present, and future would already know the choices people will make, who will make it to heaven, who'll be a mass murderer, etc.... (And incidentally, where's the ability to accept a particular religion or version of god if you're not even exposed to it?)

Theological fatalism. Free will & omniscience would seem to be contradictory.

There needs to be evil for there to be good. Who are we to say what is good and what is evil anyway? In the animal kingdom a lion will kill his adversary's cubs, is that lion evil? So why are we putting these labels on human behavior? Can't it be possible that God created us on the same level as the rest of the animal kingdom, we merely created the notion of good and bad to elevate our lifestyle from that of animals. Good and evil is man's construction anyway, you can't use that to disprove the existence of a higher being.

The Jesuit answer for this was always that God would just watch for the most part, He knew but He didn't interfere because man was His favorite creature. Why mess with the race you created to be in your own image?

And one of the more comical priests used to say that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit would chill up in the sky and make fun of us.
