WHOO! Great news, but i'm hopeing that this doesn't lead to a large scale revenge attack by alquieda.

Also, Wildmarlin man, stop turning everything FutureGM says into "Liberal spin", can't he ever give an opinion without you or someone else accusing him of having bias leftist ideals? You don't think that any of his beliefs come from his own mind? Yes, he downplayed the killing of a top terrorist, but his criticisms are not out of line.

Again, contrats to the Iraqi's who won't have to put up with this man.

No, that upsets me as an American. This terrorist that we killed beheaded MANY Americans....and all this guy can say was that we wasn't that important....

Sorry but that makes me mad as an American. Today is a day to rejoice, not to question...the world is a little safer.

It is a great thing BUT Rejoice??? It's great that we got a guy who has killed Americans but I'll rejoice when we have that prick Osama.

So what if Al-Zarqawi was the 'self-proclaimed leader of Al-Qaeda in Iraq"? I could say exactly the same thing if I wanted to. It's not very difficult.

He was dangerous, of course, but I really think that his role was being overstated because of his taunting of the United States for a long time, and his constant media exposure. However, the reality is, he was a small fish in a BIG pond.

Yes, this is a victory, but it's disturbing that it took 3 years to bring this guy to justice. It took far less time to apprehend Saddam, and even less to kill his sons. But you would think in a country we're supposed to have control, we can't find one high-profille terrorist for three years.

You know, it takes us quite a while to find murderers on our own soil - how many are still at large? Imagine in a foreign country.

As someone mentioned before, our soldiers are not policemen. They are not trained properly to take on this job. Their job is to fight a clear enemy with overwhelming force, and then go home.

Thats not really true. Espicially in regards to "the fighting", a majority of troops are barely taught how to engage the enemy. And of the non-infantry that are, are actually basicially just taught battlefield self defense. The infantry makes up only a fraction of the US military. All said, all support elements, not just MP's, and including infantry, are taught how to police. You dont let an infantryman fly a LittleBird, you dont let a cook clear a room. That type of thinking. But the role of the MP is augmented by every MOS.

Somehow I don't think Osama will be seeing justice for awhile, if at all.

As far as the violence in Iraq, this likely won't be enough to hurt it. No one is really sure how much power Zarqawi had in Iraq. It's probably less than Muqtada Al-Sadr, the radical Shi'ite cleric.

It's typical sh*t like this why liberals get such a bad name, damned if you do, damned if you don't. We can always count on FutureGM to make a mindnumbing post like this.

I'm sure if I go back a few weeks i'll be able to find a post by you bitching about how we haven't caught Zarqawi, now that he's dead you're whining like a little... I won't even go there.

Get off your high horse and try and at least be a little proud of your country for once instead of trying to take something extremely positive and spin it into something negative to make the administration look bad. What the hell is wrong with you? I don't understand how people like you can be so god damn negative all the time, it's absurd. Doesn't it get old after a while?

The admin. makes themselves look bad most of the time.

No, they can't. Simply put, they are incapable. They don't actually know what a liberal is, but they are really really happy that the term is around so they can label and simplify everything they don't understand. Notice how most of the intelligent people here that have defended Bush at one point(fytuk, Juanky etc) never use the phrase?

As for the thread, Zarqawi's death is fantastic news. But neither his death nor the death of OBL is our ultimate goal. The problems in Iraq run a lot deeper and symbolism, whether good or bad for Bush, doesnt address them. Yes, I absolutely agree that we need to stabalize the nation before leaving. But Rumsfeld is simply not able to do this. This administration did not believe there would be the ethnic violence there is today and they have no clue how to fix it. Plus someone will step in for him. All this violence isnt by a small group of people.

Try and find it. I haven't said anything.

I gotta know one thing..how did his head survive a 500 pound bomb? The video looked like a pretty solid blast and his head looked in tact. Figure there should be nothing left.

He was probably in the basement of the house which ended up collapsing on him or something of that sort.

500 pound bombs are nothing special and they're not overly powerful, they could have used much powerful ordnance but the reason they chose 500 pound bombs was because they're small in size, have a small blast radius and do not create widespread havoc and destruction. They wanted to minimize the amount of collateral damage and there wasn't a better weapon available to do the job.

The media is trying to make these "FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS BOMBS" seem like some massive things, which couldn't be further from the truth.

Edit: And on the NBC Nightly News just now, they said they wiped blood and dirt off his face before taking the picture.

Sorry, but he wasn't "self-proclaimed" as the Al Qaeda leader in Iraq:

Although bin Laden anointed Zarqawi as prince of Al Qaeda in Iraq, the two men were widely seen to be rivals, with Zarqawi keen to outshine bin Laden?s fame and notoriety.

Khaleej Times

Sorry, but he wasn't "self-proclaimed" as the Al Qaeda leader in Iraq:

He said WHAT IF......he was the "self-proclaimed" as the Al Qaeda leader in Iraq

Apparently he was still alive when Iraqi/Coalition forces got to him. In the press conference the military guy(I can't remember his name) said he could not confirm if he had been shot 'until the autopsy was done'. I can't imagine they'd shoot him in cold blood so I doubt that happened. Crazy that he initially survived two 500 pound bombs.

This is all from CNN. I don't have an article.

Folks........a 500 pound bomb is tiny in terms of bombs.

Think about it, most of us here can lift 200 or so pounds if we had to (and I say most of us....*ahem*).

So just think about how small a 500 pound bomb is in the whole scheme of things.

Congrats to the US Military for killing another animal that deserved (and asked many times by his actions) to be killed like the animal he was. :usaflag

Accord, is your sig a stab at NASCAR? And if so, :lol . Its like watching blades of grass grow..........Now actually drivin one of those suckers is a different story. That I would like.

Why wouldnt they shoot him if they were to find him while clearing the area? Wasnt his elimination the whole point of the operation?

According to what I've been reading, he barely survived the blast, and was found alive by U.S. forces. They put him on a stretcher, he rolled off of it, and died.

Why wouldnt they shoot him if they were to find him while clearing the area? Wasnt his elimination the whole point of the operation?

I would rather they sawed off his head and sent the video to his family.

I wish we could have brought the sonuvabitch to more harsh justice, but I believe true punishment is not dealt by mankind.
