June 15, 200620 yr The thread is actually about Tankersly. Really? Well, the thread title is "Tank", so it's either about Tankersly or military armor. My guess is Tankersly.
June 15, 200620 yr I refuse to get ahead of myself with these young pitchers, especially in the pen, but it's impossible to ignore the quantum improvement over the last three weeks. Tankersley just looks fearless, and unlike some of the kids earlier in the season, he's more than willing to dialogue with his catcher rather than believing he has all the answers. I don't think I've seen him shake off a signal in his last three appearances. I think a lot of that has to do with A)being a college pitcher, and B) the adjustment he's made from starting to becoming a set-up man/closer. Tank has been very impressive. I remember everyone's main concern was that he would not get many chances to pitch. I knew he'd stay up during his 2nd game (the Colorado game when his parents showed up). 1 out and a man on 2nd, and Tank is brought in to pitch to Todd Helton (who despite having a down year is still one of the best hitters in baseball), and K's him.
June 15, 200620 yr I still believe Resop will put it together and be a good setup/closer type But if we can get it like this: MR 1 Logan Kensing 2 Randy Messenger 7th Chris Resop 8th Martinez 9th Tankersly I would have no problem with that. Remember folks often a game is won in the 7th or 8th as it is in the 9th. If we can have the guys come in and keep up the Holds till then it is just as big if not bigger then most saves. The biggest reason I still think that our bullpen is doing so well though is that it isnt getting over used. The starting pitchers are giving quality starts and going into the 6th or 7th always. Which is why I feel Quality starts are biggest catagory for a starting pitcher. Everytime he goes 7 and 3er or less he helps the whole team by giving them bullpen rest and a chance to win. Either way it is impressive so far, lets keep up the good SP and good bullpen work. I like the prospects of this kid, specially since he was a starter so he can be stretched sometimes I bet. as for the sanchez question, you let him go in AA and perhaps go to AAA, you dont stretch him, if you trade Moehler then bring him up end of the year or give Pettit that rotation slot (he would do better as a starter and besides one start he has been fine really overall)
June 16, 200620 yr Martinez-Kensing and Tank seem to be the present and future for this ballclub. No doubt about it. I personally would rather see Kensing closing because of his velocity the fact that I have fallen in love with his slider. But yea either/or would probably work but I dont see Martinez closing because I believe he is the worst of the three.

But I contrary to you see K-Mart as the best of the 3.
June 16, 200620 yr In mathematical terms, potential wise... Resop < Messenger =< Kensing < Martinez =< Tank
June 16, 200620 yr Resop hs let the slider go and is starting to throw a cutter as taught him by his AAA pitching coach...they think this will be a much better pitch for him in the long run....CONSISTENCY is his key....he has to keep throwing inside to make the hitters move their feet and then paint the outside corners....believe me I know this kid like the back of my hand.....he will be there before years end.... June 16, 200620 yr Tank reminds me of Wagner a bit ; of course without the 99 mph fastball but substituting it with a 94 mph fastball, though Tank has a nice curve. I noticed with Martinez back and Tank now in the pen Messenger has gotten less time. Sux because he was doing really well except for giving up the bomb to Chipper.

This guy has been nothing but money there. I say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Either way, it's flat out amazing to think of the talent we have for the pen. I highly criticized the fact that we only traded for pitching, but if we can solidify the rotation and the pen with a dozen nasty arms than it will be easy to find the position guys to complete a true contender.
