June 18, 200620 yr We came home last night after a nice Father's Day dinner to find my kitten, Sox (like the White Sox), who is 8 months old, full of candle wax. I had a candle on a jar warmer- (nothing lit, but it was melted wax) way on the back of my dresser. It's been there for 2 years and nothing has happened. The best thing we can guess is Bandit (one of our other cats) jumped up onto the TV armoire and knocked it over while Sox was underneath, trying to play with him. Sox is missing a small patch of hair right below his neck. It doesn't look burned- it isn't pink or blistering. I did put some antibiotic cream on it. He couldn't reach it. He has wax all over him. Even on his paws and belly. We tried to shave him the best we could. Tomorrow we will take him to the Vet. He is up and about today. He's trying to pick the wax off of his paws. Poor baby! I feel terrible. Needless to say, the candle warmer is gone from the house-never to return. I even tried looking up how to get candle wax off of pet hair on the internet last night during the frenzy and all I came up with was either to shave him or put ice on it. But there's too much of it to put ice on. He's going to look like Mr. Bigglesworth tomorrow. Please pray for my Soxie.
June 18, 200620 yr I will say a little prayer for your kitty cat. One time my dog got gum stuck all over him, it took a few hours to remove it all by water and soap.
June 18, 200620 yr I use wax all the time and nothing like that has ever happened. Poor cat. :confused
June 19, 200620 yr Author He did eat today and where the fur is off completely- it isn't blistered or red. I think that the initial shock/pain of the situation has passed and now, he is just annoyed that his fur is stuck together. They'll probably have to give him a sedative to shave him the rest of the way. Hello, Mr. Biggelsworth....... But both Bandit and Sox have now had their childhood traumas in our household. When Bandit was like 7 months, he broke his leg. He thought he was bigger than our floor fan.
June 19, 200620 yr Poor little fella, thankfully it just got stuck in his hair because it could have been a LOT worse. \
June 19, 200620 yr Sorry to hear that and glad the cat is ok, but.... pictures? I wanna see the bald cat! If you don't mind of course.
June 19, 200620 yr At least you haven't had to get your cat out of the sewer.... but anyway, I hope your cat gets his fur back and may God Bless America.
June 20, 200620 yr Author A Sox Update: We took him to the Vet yesterday and they did sedate him so they could shave him to get the wax out. THey didn't shave him completely- just the parts that had the wax. Now, he looks weird and funny. But we do have to put Neosporin on his skin and it will heal. I love you, Soxie!!
