July 9, 200620 yr BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- Abu Musab al-Zarqawi had the phone numbers of senior Iraqi officials stored in his cell phone, according to an Iraqi legislator. Waiel Abdul-Latif, a member of former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi's party, said Monday that authorities found the numbers after al-Zarqawi, leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, was killed in a U.S. air strike on June 7. Abdul-Latif did not give names of the officials. But he said they included ministry employees and members of parliament. He called for an investigation, saying Iraqis "cannot have one hand with the government and another with the terrorists." http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/07/03/...i.ap/index.html :plain
July 9, 200620 yr So does this tell us anything significant? Is it another black eye on the public perception that we are doing a horrible job in Iraq and that the people put into place to lead arent that much better in the long run than Hussein? Or is it just something that is 'mistaken' and being blown out of proportion potentially?
July 9, 200620 yr Here is what it tells us-that in the world of politics and fighting terrorism, things are always black and white. They arent always good vs. evil. In fact, they are almost always blurred. Here is how we could expect some people who think in black and white to analyze this: America supports these Iraqi officials and they support Zarqawi and he supports Al Qaeda so America supports Al Qaeda. I blame democrats. Look, just today news is coming in about the massacre of Sunnis. This was not supposed to be how to went. We keep hearing how we are liberating the Iraqi people and fighting the terrorists over there. Maybe if you keep repeating this mantra, watching Foxnews, claiming everything else is the liberal media, and smile..this will be true. Im not necessarily for full troop withdrawal. But this administration has not laid out exactly how they can address the problems that are going on now. Theyd rather just say nothing is wrong and demand that people not be critical of the Bush. Id say this is a major symptom of a country(Iraq) that has become chaotic politically.
July 9, 200620 yr This incident does not bode well for the current government, to know that some of its' members had direct contact with Al-Zarqawi. Especially since he did not care at all about the long-term future of Iraq, only to kill infidels and Shi'ites. It wouldn't be quite as bad if the government was in contact with some of the resistance groups against us, because it would show that they would be able to contact them if things get out of hand, or if they want to reach some kind of agreement.
July 10, 200620 yr Doesn't necessarily mean they were supporting him. Maybe not, but there aren't that many other explanations as to why they would have their numbers on his phone.

Following your linear thought process in your hypo would be : America supports these Iraqi officials and they support Zarqawi and he supports Al Qaeda so America supports Al Qaeda. I blame republicans Either way I agree with your point.
July 10, 200620 yr Either way, certainly more good news for the reconstruction efforts! :thumbup It isnt actually bad news. This is the kind of thing that happens everywhere. Its corruption plain and simple, for all we know some politicians in the U.S, England, or France have ties w terrorists

Did you quote that from john stewart or the other 10,000 people who have said it before. Instead of being so one sighted and using everything as an anti-Bush attack, how about thinking of the possibility that any political figure from any party or state could be connected to terrorist groups. Thats a scary thought, much scarier than repeating somehting that has been spewed numerous times by media outlets and authors.

It's a fact that Bush's family has close ties to the House of Saud (including investing in his failed oil company), and that 13 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi, something that the government doesn't like to discuss.

So there isn't a possibility he was calling them with murder threats if they did not expel the infidels? For example... Can you get the phone numbers of Congressmen? Are they then involved in whatever you do by assimilation?
